Key switch ignition problem

I couldn't get the key out of my 95z28 this morning. It was cold and I went and started the car and then took it around campus to the baseball field for practice. Well When I put the car in park and went to turn the keys toward me I wouldn't turn. I thought maybe It not in park so I put it back in drive and then in park again still wouldn't come out. So me being frustrated hit the steering wheel colum and then figured I try one last time to get the key out. It worked. Anyone know whats broken that it won't let my key out?

It might just need a little lube. Dry graphite is good for lock assemblies.

If it because the key cylinder is not turning far enough to the lock position, this might help.

On my car I had to drop the column and bend back a tang that holds the other end of the cable to the column. It had popped uot and I couldn't get the key out.
