Keeping up with a LS1

I have a 96 Z-28 M6 and I was wondering what bolt-on's would be needed to keep up with an LS1 M6. Would it just be basic mods or would I have to move into forced induction? Anybody know?

Re: Keeping up with a LS1

Car could use a Hotcam,Cold air intake, Longtube headers, True duals or a catback, with the 6spd use 4:10's, Madz28 tune

maybe a decent clutch, and good tires should do the trick.
Thats what i think would hold up against the LS1, but it also depends on what the LS1 has done to it

Intake, long tubes, nice flowing catback and a tune will get you keeping up. If you want a little more maybe some 1.6 ratio roller rockers and gears.

Thats not to bad, its less than what I was figuring. what kind of gas mileage would I expect to get with 4.10's?

ppl say maybe a mpg or two..They say it barely noticeable, but the amount of pull from the 4:10's is very noticeable! I getting my self some very shortly

Re: Keeping up with a LS1

leave the car stock with just intake,LT's and catback, and a 100 shot, and you'll say how does an LS1 keep up with an LT1

Yeah I want to put a 100 shot on it, but wold it be safe to put nitrous on a LT1 with 115,000 miles?

Gears are o.k., but you have to be able to hold traction, which can be tough with 4.10's and street tires.

I'm in LS1 territory and I have CAI, MAC Headers, Hooker Catback and Pro Mag 1.6 RR's, with stock gears.

Re: Keeping up with a LS1

LS1's don't have much over an LT1, yes stock vs stock LS1 is the faster engine. It doesn't take but maybe one thing to keep up with it. I don't have much done to my car and a LS1 Z28 Had a huge stall, long tubes, intake, slicks, and 100 shot and couldn't even leave me and I don't have NOS. I have been told I have a fast car for an LT1 and they can't believe how fast it is considering the small things that are done to it. But I have a new rebuilt engine with hypertectic pistons and 4.060 bore.

Re: Keeping up with a LS1

I had a friend with an LT1 and one with an LS1, the guy with the LT1 had an intake and exhaust and when they raced there was a noticeable difference in the speed of the LS1. Gears wise I was thinking 3.73, it has 3.42's in it right now, but I want to be able to get traction on street tires because I never go to the track.

It all depends, no motor is the same, not all LS1's or LT1's are alike, neither is the chassis.

Either the LS1 was broken, or couldn't drive. A bolt-on LS1 with a 100 shot and slicks will absolutely walk an LT1 with "minor" things done to it, every time. I don't care if he has the crappiest LS1 made and you have the biggest LT1 factory freak, he would still wipe the floor with you.

***-whopping comes to mind, actually.

This issue has been debated to death in countless other threads. Bottom line - be prepared to shell out some money, because it will always be a catch-up game.

Yeah a catch-up game is all that it will ever be, because once I catch up, they will do some mods and leave me behind once again. Maybe I should just get a LS1 SS
