keeping the engine cool

hey everybody, i was told that to keep my LT1 running cooler getting a 160 degree stat and having my fans programmed to come on around 180 degree area is a good way to go. i happen to have 2 questions though. where and how would i get my fans programmed? also if my car is suppose to run around 180 degrees shouldnt i maybe program the fans to come on around like 190 degrees or so? thanks for your help.

The guys at PCMFORLESS.com can help you eith the program. Also MADWOLF on here can to it.
You could put a manal fan seitch also and controll it whenever you want. Be alot cheaper than a $100-$150 reprogram.
Do a search for "Fan switch" To much info on it to post in a single thread.

by doing a manual fan switch, are the fans still programed to kick in at 226 degrees incase the switch or something fails? and also is it good or bad to just throw in a 160 degree stat without the programming

Yeah they still come on if you dont have the switch on.
I dont think it will matter about the thermostat.
Just look at it like this, do thermostat and programming and everything is automatic. With a switch, you have to turn them on and off at a lower temp.

A Jet fan switch ($45 from Summit) will do an excellent job of keeping temps around 180 degrees and it's automatic.

It consists of a switch that screws into the cylinder head and a connector that snaps into the wiring harness at the computer. It turns the fans on at 180 degrees. The hardest part of the install is locating and removing the cylinder head drain plug between #6 and #8 where the switch screws into. A flashlight and a small mirror will help you locate the plug. Use an 8 mm drain plug socket on a breaker bar with a cheater bar to remove the plug. Use teflon tape on the switch.
My car stays at 180 degrees on all but the hottest Sacramento days when I'm running the AC in commute traffic. Fits 93 - 95 LT1s only.
