keep throwing and breaking hardened push rods
keep throwing and breaking hardened push rods
just got the 355 ion my SS, it has the GM847 cam, head height is stock, and im running NSA 1.6 comp RR with the comp guide plates, also have the comp R lifters. all i hear is ticking from under the hood and every time i give it any load i spit out a push rod. is it possible im rubbing the guide plates? its starting to get irritating and im running out of pushrods!! (i have a whole motors worth of spare hardened pushrods) im at a loss! also we have relashed the pushrods more times than i care to mention. any advice?
first get a good set of pushrods like a comp 7940 a 1pc. ch moly. .080
Second you have the wrong guide plates.....do some research, I would go with the isky, if you can't handle the isky adjustables then go with the gmpp

Do you have the correct guide plates? The hardened push rods are to keep the guide plates from eating them up, but there shoudn't be that much rubbing if the guide plates are the correct ones. Not all guide plates work well with the Lt1s. GM guide plates seems to be a popular choice. You should be able to tell how they line up when you install them. And if you check them with the engine running you should be able to see your problem. JMHO
im 100%posative the valves are fine this motor came out of another car i own, and i used these guide plates on another setup with this same cam.
long story short...
took motor out of my Z28, put it in my SS my SS had the GM847 cam with this same valvetrain... i bought a brand new 847 to put in this motor, this setup worked in the SS before the bearings went bye bye. but ill check out the vendors to see who has the best deal on the ISKY's (i actualy did some research before posting this
) but when i originaly ordered the setup from combination motorsports (when they where open) this is the stuff they recomended, so i made the assumption they where correct. thank you for your help guys! forgot to add i have the comp pushrods
there expensive little bastards too!

Well I will TELL you they were wrong, maybe thats why they are out of biz.
I have used those plates and have several sets on the shelf from customers cars off LT1's....THEY ARE WRONg...they don't work.
The good pushrods can be worth up to 15 or so H.P. The isky take some time to get right but when they are right they are RIGHT.
Happy trails
