K&N CAI VS Ram air.
Well I was looking at getting an K&N CAI and I was like dang $200 for that, so I looked at the Ram air option. Buying a cowl induction hood and an ram air box of course would cost more but would this give be a big advantage over the CAI. You see the car came with an drop in K&N filter and I want to upgrade but I do not want to get the CAI and then say down ge the RAM air. So I guess what I'm asking is having Ram air really that much of an advantage over say a K&N CAI?
It's debatable which is better. The CAI will give you added power at any RPM whereas the RAM AIR is subject to speed. Some people say that for a RAM AIR to be effective the inlet has to be positioned at least 6 inches from the hood. The way air flows over a Camaro hood causes it to sweep over the inlet and may not actually provide any gains. There's really no RAM AIR induction dyno sheets. To know if it really works you'd have to dyno it stock or with a CAI and then install a RAM AIR hood, air box and then run it in a dyno with a large fan to simulate air speed. Lots of factors involved.
Bottomline get the RAM AIR if you like the look of the hood. If it's not too your liking you can always install a CAI.

I would go with the CAI, due to the fact that it gives you power through your whole rmp range as to where ram air starts really giving you power at I THINK 55-60 mph, but dont quote me on that speed. CAI is cheaper in the long run...
Either one will work fine for you. Unless you are planning on some major mods in the future the CAI will flow plenty for your motor through out the RPM range. Ram Air is nice but like you said it does cost a lot more for the hood and airbox.
I know this issue has been and will be debated into the ground. But i just got a ws6 hood and air box off this board. The reason i did this i because the hood looks some much better. The performance gains are about the same. I think the ram air is the best but not by a lot. I think both systems always provide cold air to the motor, just the ram air shoves the air in at like 50 and up.
Just my opinion. No numbers to back up my statement. Yet.

the intake manifold has X volume
you can get X volume of air in there
if its compressed or colder you can get more-
with a CAI, you can fill it up already, its not like your starving it
If all your looking for is the performance, and not the look (not that I would do such a thing), you might be able to have the best of both worlds. Take a look at this web site and see how this guy has his CAI set up.

I was going to go with Ram air but I already have a Moroso CAI (which is almost identical to the K&N but cheaper) and I love it, so I think I'm going to stick with it and do the add-on that he's done.
Hope you like it,
Jason

Again. Ram Air/Scam Air. Both systems are "induction" not "injection".
CAI is not necessarily "Cold". The temp of the air is whatever the ambient temp is plus heat soak and under-the-hood temps depending on where the CAI is located and routed.
The Ponchos are technically more suited for a ram effect since the air has a straight shot, where the Camaro is not. Neither is going to provide a forced air situation unless the air is efficiently striking the intake scoop and going a trillion miles an hour.
Heat shielding the air box can lessen the heat soak. JMHO
