Ill be on the conservative side and say 8whp. No noticaible difference. Makes a cool sound.

Ill edit this post and say that my car was Bone stock when I put this on.

When I added the K&N to my car it was bone stock except for the Borla cat back. I could notice a difference before and after in throttle response. Not saying it was night and day difference but I could tell. I didn't have the car dynoed before/after the K&N so I can't tell ya how much hp I actually picked up.

They're all basicly the same. As long as you do not buy an ebay one. Lingenfelter (sp), moroso, K&N, SLP. Are the normal ones.

i out mine on after doing LT headers, o/r y pipe, and a catback, and i noticed a bit of a difference in power. Alot better throttle response too. Go with K&N or moroso

Like said above, throttle response is a little better and i am guessing the 5-10 HP is going to be seen in the higher RPM's were you wont really feel anything less then like a 20hp increase.

I like to do a few things at one time, So i can really feel the increase of power. If i just did a little here and their i would always be used to the car and never get that OMFG feeling from mods.

Do a Cai, Headers and exhaust cut out/cat back exhaust system and feel the power LOL

K&N (gauze type filter) on CAI does 2 things. The filter flows better, which may allow the engine to injest the air it requires more easily and the fact that the filter is not enclosed (depending on the routing away from under-the-hood heat) may reduce the temperature of the inducted air, thus allowing a more oxygenated fuel mixture producing more power.

Since the air is not forced and the temperature is no cooler than ambient temperature, the gains are most likely minimal. The main objective of the system is to maximize the amount available air and introduce the coolest air you can access. So using a hi-flow, open-air induction system should be superior to an enclosed, paper filter. JMHO

My view of aftermarket performance bolt-ons is a bit skeptical. I think one must divide the advertised claims by 2 or 3 to get closer to reality of what you should expect....and that is assuming there is any benefit at all.
If 20HP is the claim, then you should feel happy if you got 6HP.

I get a laugh out of posts on other boards from guys that claim CAI boosted their MPG by 1-3. I wish it were so, but I cannot explain how that could be.

Having said that I do believe a K&N CAI, under certain operating conditions, can provide HP increases. I am just unsure how much.

From my personal experience when I dynoed my modified 454SS truck, I picked up 11rwhp and 23rwtq by removing the air cleaner that had a K&N filter and running a naked TBI. Interpret that as you will.

My 1/4 times were not affected by the SLP CAI install.
But the black gloss tubing looks a lot better than the stock plastic....

Mine used to make a sound, but it doesn't anymore....even after cleaning it ...

People's preferences on cai's are looks and fit, like already said, most are mostly the same.

If you switch to a 14" open element K&N with the filter top you would probably see the same thing as you did with the naked TBI. The restriction is the stock air cleaner assembly, not the filter inside. I have done this on all my TBI cars and trucks over the years.

I would tend to agree that a K&N filter 'lid' on the air cleaner would provide some benefit of increased air flow. I've just been too cheap to buy one.
