Just threw a rod.
Just threw a rod.
I was racing a Z and sprayed, everything was fine went another mile or so and oil pressure dropped and car died, started it again something was knocking bad i cut it off right a way and pushed it off the street...look under the car and there is a hole in the driver side of the oil pan. So...what is the most cost effective way of fixing this...and while the motor is torn a apart what do you guys think I should do to it to improve performance and reliability on budget while keeping it fully streetable?
Re: Just threw a rod.
Same thing just happened to me after i put new in new heads and cam. Car died and I got a hole in the oil pan too. You gotta beef up the bottom end rebuild the hole thing while its out, so u dont gotta go thru this again. I dont think many of these stock bottom ends hold up when adding all that HP.
Re: Just threw a rod.
That's a fine idea if you have a spare one. For time and $$ purposes, I would definately pray that the block is ok. I would also check with the board vendors or Scoggin Dickey for a quick replacement short block.

welcome to my world.
put 100 shot of juice and lasted a month. goodluck to you! youll be looking at $300+ for a full gasket set and head bolts... be prepared to spend over your budget.
I broke some **** putting it back together
Luckily I had the board to ask 46,987 questions. I had no prior knowledge of working on cars too. Its nice to know I(we) did it. I know my car like the back of my hand now!

Re: Just threw a rod.
If he has a hole in the pan, more than likely a rod bolt broke which means the piston/rod (or parts of it anyway) probably dug into the cylinder wall. Not saying that's the case, but it's usually what happens when there's a big hole in the pan. Best case is he's out a rod and a crank (and maybe a couple of valves) if that's what happenned.
Re: Just threw a rod.
I have a good friend who is willing to do the work and let me pay him once i recover a little. So, I think if the block is okay ill buy a rebuild kit with forged pistions....if its not okay then ill see if i can turn it into a 355...if it is still not okay looks like im looking for a new block.
