Just pulled my engine from the top!
Just pulled my engine from the top!
I ask a few questions about doing this and some were answered and some were not. Thanks to those who gave advise.
I also wanted to point out for those that plan on doing this in the future that you can do it with ease without disconnection the AC and the power steering fluid lines. This was one question that nobody seemed to be able to answer.
All you have to do is remove the ps pump bolts, the AC compressor bolts and then the accesory bracket bolts.....then work the bracket out leaving the compressor to sit on the sway bar and the ps pump sitting on the compressor. I also unbolted the motor mount assembly from the motor to ease in clearing the ac compressor. Hope this info helps someone.
Thanks again

I did it with ease. Actually my motor took a dump friday night and I had it out and the whole motor stripped to bare block by Sat. 2:00 in the afternoon. I even left the a/c condensor in the car.
To make it a little easier, drop the sway bar down and the a/c compeser and p/s pump drop down out of your way alittle further.

Did it from the top too. Did not have to touch A/C, and only had to remove bolts from power steering pump pulley like you. MAnd those bolts were a pain to put back in!! Got pics on the site under LT4 rebuild

I assume the compressor is styaing in the car? I'm a little confused right now...

I dont have any pics, but I can try and expalin it. All you really have to do is unbolt the compressor from the side of the block, and the I think or 4 bolts on the front of the block to the accessory brkt. Then just leave the bracker in the car, with the compressor. Its takes a little bit of work to get the radiator out without the condensor. Good luck.
OK I got the bracket out. Engine is ready to pull.
There's 4 bolts holding the bracket to the block/heads, make sure you get them all.
2 bolts hold on the P/S pump. Just use an extension through the spokes on the pulley to remove them.
I forget how many are on the compressor, but it's easy to see.
There's also one on the back, don't forget that one. 10mm wrench worked for me.
I ended up using a 9/16" swivel socket on the bolt behind the P/S pump, because the pump was a PITA and in my way. I also ended up taking off the top line (and of course got a buncha fluid on the floor), as I couldn't wrestle it over the top of the bracket, and didn't want to bend any metal tubes.
There's also a bolt at the bottom front of the compressor. Undoing that will help you move it around a little bit.
It was a PITA, but good luck!
