Just curious, how often do you all clean your CAI air filters?
I currently have the Moroso CAI on my '95 and last I knew, the previous owner said he cleaned and re-oiled it during last summer...Car has not even had 2,000 miles put on it since last spring, so I'm going to wait for a while yet...But sorry if this was a stupid question and is there a quick little kit I can buy to just do this myself? Or what do you guys use to do it? With my LS1, I just remove the air filter from the airbox and replace it with another one.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks,
Mike

buy the k&n recharge kit. You can just wash the filter and clean it out good. Then use some filter oil on it from the kit. I did it once so far about 2k miles ago. I was planning on checking it soon.
Re: Just curious, how often do you all clean your CAI air filters?
I use the K&N recharge kit on my Moroso as well. Sure can be a PITA to get at the air filter on these moroso CAIs. But like pHEnomIC stated - you basically just use the cleaner, let sit a few minutes then rins with low pressure. Then apply oil and put filter back on. It's not bad.
Re: Just curious, how often do you all clean your CAI air filters?
hmm, thanks for reminding me, i've had mine for a year and a half and have never done it, lol. Although it still looks pretty clean.
Re: Just curious, how often do you all clean your CAI air filters?
i just did mine. i don't know when the last owner did it, but i ahve had the car for 20k miles. did it the other day. it was dirty
Re: Just curious, how often do you all clean your CAI air filters?
the k & n manual says not to clean it too often as its filtering ability improves when it gets some dirt in it without hurting its airflow capabilities (i personally find it hard to believe the last bit, but the first bit is true for all filters). They recommened cleaning every 2 yrs under normal driving conditions.
Re: Just curious, how often do you all clean your CAI air filters?
Cleaning it every time you work on your car or even every 3k miles seems a little excessive. Granted, im not going to wait for 2 years to do it, but excesseive cleaning and oiling is not necessary. Plus, if you have fresh oil always on the filter, you increase your chances of the oil messin up your MAF wires. Not sayin any of you over oil the filter, just sayin in general.
Re: Just curious, how often do you all clean your CAI air filters?
I clean mine like once a year, I take it to the carwash and blast the hell out of it on the high presure setting for a few minutes from the inside so the water and dirt goes out wards. Then I just take it home and leave it in the drive way, the Hot Texas sun can dry it up prety quick.

Oh yeah, also meant to ask, what kind of replacement K&N filter can I use on my Moroso CAI? The filters rubber is completely falling apart, so I need a new one

hate to sound like the nerd, but the manual says high pressure will tear up the matrix and reduce the filtering ability. cleaning too often will result in dirt making it to your maf and internals.

I clean mine once a year! I would NOT recommend using a high pressure hose (car wash) to clean it. Just use a shower head with nice warm water. This works really well. Too much pressure will damage the filter and allow debris through. And go easy on the oil to....too much will get sucked in and cover the little wires in your MAF and cause you problems!!! <---- it happened to me!
