JETHOT slip-in #1 primary weld it?

My jet-hot LTs are on the way, wont be going in for a while, but Im curious about this now. My car will not have ABS anmore and it has a BMR kmember. But would it be feasable to weld up the #1 primary tube on the Drivers side that is a slipfit. I hate the idea of the slip, my MACs leaked like crazy.

two questions. How hard would it to be to install the header with it welded up. Based on the fact that I can install it on the engine if that helps, up through the bottom on the kmember or whatever.

other ?, what will this do to the sterling coating? Would I need to send it back in to get recoated in that area?

primary tube idea

if you weld the number one primary, you will have to remove the steering rack because it goes between the number one primary and number 3. I used a clamp from summit the part number is SUP-094-1750 its a 1 3/4" band clamp. It works perferct, i have no leaks.

Well I doubt I will have to remove the actual rack, I know I will have to remove the steering shaft obviously, which is not a big deal at all. I just want to know if the header will actually go in there as one piece, Im sure its been done.

Yeah we heard you the first time ravigogna.
I don,t know for sure but I believe if you weld the #1 primary tube then you will have to drop the Kmember to remove and install the header.
Tubular Kmember might let it clear but I,m thinkin not.

Ok well not to be rude, but red ss is the only one helping here, I was hoping for real life experience with this not guesses, I can guess how it will work like the best of them.

Well besides the point of will it fit now....what will TIG welding that tube up do to the coating?

you have to grind off the coating before you can weld it. then have it recoated when you're done.

I figured that, but wasnt sure if the sterling coating stayed above the temperature TIG welding it will reach. Ok, now you think I would be best off putting the motor and everything in from the bottom then if I plan on welding that up? I hear its easier anyway, having everything in there, all you have to do is put like 8 bolts to hold it all up then.

Yes we sanded it down and I bolted it straight up to a older style GM head and we welded it up..I didnt have it recoated because you cant really see the weld anyways.

Yes, I would put it in from the bottem if I were you..Mine went in from the top but it took 6 hrs of hard work and it still barely fit..I had EVERYTHING unbolted on that side of the motor including all kmember bolts/steering linkage/motor mount and bracker/etc...
In other words it sucked..

So it didnt really remove much of the coating then? Like how far from the weld did it remover coating on either side?

If I will have to recoat it I wont do it since I called jethot and it would cost me $100 to get it recoated since they have to do the whole header all over again. If it will be this big of a pain in the *** I might forget about it, but since nothing will be in there and they will be going in the same time as the engine I figured it might be easier.

If you have the header right now, go ahead and put the slip-tube in the header..If its a loose fit like mine was it will leak..if its a tight fit and its fairly hard to slide it in, then I wouldnt worry about it...Seems like its a 50/50 chance its going to leak..I couldnt stand it so I permanantly fixed it
