JetHot or Hooker LT Headers w/Borla owners?
Someone else earlier today had troulbe getting to my site, yet others have no problem at all. Let me clarify a little bit, i regularly work on 2 fbodys. 1 a heads/cam 383 with longtubes and borla (with cats
). The other is the one in my sig which has SLP headers and 2OTL catback. The second one with the SLP exhaust is where i used the dynomax bullet muffler for an ORP. It is not a cone, but a straight through muffler or 'resonator'. There is a night at day difference between using the bullet and a regular straight tubing ORP, it totally cuts out the raspy scratching tinging (expcept right at startup when it is cold at ~2200 rpms). Bullet mufflers are what many people use on their dual exhuast setups. They can be purchased from summit and jegs.
Greg and i both did our respective exhaust mods at the same time and were happy with the results. I was just sharing an alternative

Here are all the clips i have. Exhaust clips are at the bottom with a description of the setup. If that still doesn't work for you i could email them, but i think my site works for most people.

thanks...
Car sounds like i want it to sound.. I can hear what u mean by the cold start.. thats still much better than what i have now... And even if it did that all the time i could tolerate that.

I see your point....ok well let me clarify on what I was thinking for a stroker exhaust setup, I would only use the Borla tips (about 16" of the piping maybe and that's it. If I true dualed I would not use the Borla muffler (would be one short anyways) or exhaust piping. I would run an 3" xpipe, 3" pipe into (good flowing muffler of choice) and out the back with Borla tips. No way that would make it sound like a six but I'm sure you thought I meant using other borla components.

You want DEEP, you'll get it with true duals.
Otherwise put the cats back in and run a different cat-back system such as SLP 2OTL or the GMMG which are both very deep sounding compared to the other systems available(especially your Borla).BTW, it is a lot more $$$, but Lane(www.laneswheels.com) or Speed Inc(www.ls1speed.com) can custom make you a 3" true dual system all the way out the rear with the tips of your choice. But again, not cheap...
Good luck,
Mike

sounds like I need to highly consider the true duals when I stroke the car. I have a muffler man that could run anything anyway I want here in Houston. He built my custom 3" Y and tucked it really nice without the restricting crimps for a 100 bucks. I'm on slow dialup at home now, so not sure the sound clips will work but I'm going to try. I can't use the bullets on the Y due to the dual cutouts being where you'd put the bullets and I definitely want to keep the cutouts for obvious reasons when I get the stroked rwhp where I want it. $120 for dual cones sounds enticing for a less expensive alternative. I hate the idea of ditching the Borla when I've only had the car for 7 months
.
appreciate all the feedback, I knew this would be the place to post for ideas.

I'm only running one bullet muffler. Put an 18" one in the I pipe. About 40 bucks shipped, maybe 20 to weld it in.
I do think true duals would be a better option though
You could probably sell that borla for a mint on ebay. I sold just the borla 'rear section' for 400, not even the adjustable catback! Just stress that it's good SS.

I don't have LT's but I had the same problem after removing my cat. I've got SLP single cat headers, ORP, and Borla catback. When I removed the cat and went with the ORP I really didn't like the sound of it, it was too raspy, kinda nasty sounding. I added one of these 3" insert cones. I put it in the ORP, it makes the Borla sound much better imo, took out almost all of the nasty popping sounds it would make especially when decellerating and mellowed the note out just enough. You could go with two of them one at each header collector or one farther back after the y. I noticed no noticable difference in performance after adding it.

Definitely let us know how you like the sound after you install them, I'm really curious because I may do that exact same setup if and when I switch to Jet Hot LT's. I think you will like the sound of the Borla much more if they work the same with LT's as they did with my SLP's.

I used to have Borla with my Jet Hot LTs and an ORP. Lets just say after a lot of feeling embarassed and the horrible high pitched sound, I bought myself a Hooker cat-back and am very very happy now. Borla sounded just as bad (actually 1000x worse) on my friend's LS1 with the same setup save SLP LTs. Neither of us used plates.

I've been looking at this GMMG setup, I'm still looking for a clip with longtubes on an lt1 with no cats and GMMG (just a stock lt1, heads/cam would be ok) to get an idea. I've been to their website and it had some trailer queen videos with strokers I'm sure but got an idea of the sound. I think they are overpriced but so is Borla and the rest of them.

Had the cones in for a week, they definitely take out the raspy popping backfire sound when you shift, it mellowed the overall sound down just a hair, it's still not as deep as it was with stock exhaust manifold and cats but I'm going to figure out something.

Good to hear it helped take some of the nasty sounds out of it, you probably need to play with the Borla plates to get the sound just right.

....with the Dynatech silencer cones from last week and this evening puttin on the smallest Borla reducer plate I have a deep setup again. I can live with it till the cam & heads go on which I'm sure will help even more. Again thanks for all the feedback and hope this setup will help others with Borla, longtubes, no cats to deepen the tone again.
