Jet hott fitment issues

well i finally got my headers in but i have one problem , maybe more but here we go ,

The headers are in and the driver side hearder/flange is flush with the floor board,

my buddy says that new motor mounts will help (he did em on his bros car). this is b.c the motor is leaning to the right b/c the mounts are old , and new mounts will bring it level and give me some room

What do u guys think? Also can i do the mounts without removing the headers?

2nd the y-pipe on the driver side wont fit no matter what , i c most headers come with the pipe indented on that side for clearance

My pipe did not come with the indentation , was that a factory mistake or do i have to indent it myself?

also i cracked my heater box but it not leaking, can i just put some JB welld or high temp RTV on it just in case?

thank u in advance

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

I hope the motor mounts work, wrenching on this thing all weekend and still not having it done. My dad still doesn't understand how the mount would effect that, but who knows. I say its worth a try. I'm not complaining because the car is still in my driveway and I have the keys

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

My jet hots had an odd fit at first... best method is to drop the motor down some... and tighten all the header bolts hand tight. so they are linned up properly... then do the inner slowly...the outside slowly and torque them all down so they fit flush. It doesn't seem like your motor is sitting flish and is hanging up on the headers... how did you intsall them? double check the driverside header and make sure it's not hanging on anything..

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

Motor mounts should do the trick--I installed new polly mounts when I did my header install and didn't have any clearance problems. I also have the Jet-Hot Y-Pipe and it does have an indentation on the drivers side--it should have that, if not contact Jet-Hot or whoever you got it from....

Mounts and the y pipe. Bobby better get on that and call jet hot! So we can finish this beast this weekend and go joy riding.

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

I had to disconnect the driver's side header from the head and y-pipe and move it so that I could get the driver's motor mount out of the car.

The passenger side I did with the header still attacked and just the starter removed.

But, I have Hooker Long Tubes so it might be slightly different for you.

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

Couple words of advice: 1) I've had a HELL of a time getting my headers to seal properly--been through Percy's and Felpro gaskets, kept getting blowouts on #8 and #7 from the bottom. Just got done this weekend redoing these for the 4th time and it APPEARS they're good. This time I used Felpro 1406 and spreaded a bead of Copper RTV on both sides of the gasket (don't use the copper spray--ask me how I know ). Let the RTV get tacky and bolt the header up, TRY not to move it around much. When bolting the header work from the middle to the end. 2) Didn't have much luck with the slip fit either. Got mine to seal up nicely by coating the slip fit with (you guesed it) Copper RTV. I also went to Jegs and got a T-clamp (I thing around 3/4" to 1 1/4") and use it for insurance. If I get any more blow outs, I'll be pulling them this winter and sending back to Jet-Hot so they can inspect the flanges..... Hope you have better luck!

Oh yea, HERE is a great link to help with the motor mount install--that PS one can be a PITA....

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

well on further inspection it also looks like they had given me two passenger side pipes instead if a driver and passenger one, which may be the reason they did not dent the one pipe

teh guy i ordered these through is gonna call jethot to figure this out

BTW thanks for the motor mount guide

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

ok so i replaced the motormounts and it really gave me nothing, the header is no longer touching the floorboard but theres def nto enough clearance for teh y-pipe

i have a ES poly mount , i guess they sit higher than the stock ones,

do u think if i put teh a stock one back on that it will make the engine lean backto regular height it will givieme some clearance??
just a thought, im just trying to do everything b4 i take to a shop to get the pipes fabbed up

Where is the clearance issue? Is it in the tranny mount? I had a problem with mine and had to trim the lip off a little to get it to fit even thought they did flatten the pipe . It was so tight and when the motor would rev it torque to the side and bang the y-pipe along the crossmember. Since then I have had no problems.

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

why do people keep throwing the motor mount issue in there? i had the same issue when i put new -gm- mounts in my 100,000+ z28. the mounts he had when he started the process will actually give him the best clearence, as NEW ones won't sag at all.
oh and by the way i had the exact problem with my jet hots!

i ended up getting rid of the jet hots and getting hooker super comp's. a lesson well learned! you get what you pay for. this is the 2nd set of jet hots i have had major problems with.

Re: Jet hott fitment issues

my clearance problem is that teh driver side header points up toward the body and there is no way that the y-pipe is going to go on .

im just trying ot figure out diff ways to get some clearance b4 i have to get a fabbed y-pipe

teh collector flange sits like 1/4 inch off the floorboard

motor mounts are poly

Mystic97Z THANKS FOR THE LINK THATS THE EXACT PROBLEM I HAVE
