Talking Jet Hot Longtubes Installed!

Last night I finished up my longtube install by installing my Hooker y-pipe. I love the way the headers made it sound. It sounds so sweet. I thought it might make it a little louder at idle but its seems quieter than manifolds. The car feels so much stronger now. I can't wait to take it to the track again and see how much it helps. I installed the headers, y-pipe and Taylor OVC in a week. Don't let that fool ya though as I work 10 to 12 hours everyday. And just worked on it after work for a few hours, but I did have some help from my dad. They were a PITA to install but it seems to be well worth it. If anyone is about to do this feel free to ask me any questions I'd love to help.

nice job, your next step should be a mail order tune, or at least a LT4 KM.
You will notice a little loss way down low with your LT's, but the motor will pull alot harder.

Did you install them from the bottom? If so how high did you have to have your car? I have heard things like 3 ft off the ground and I just can't imagine getting my car up that high on the driveway.

You will need at least three feet and the more you can get, the better. My install was quite a bit easier since we had the tranny out at the time.

Re: Jet Hot Longtubes Installed!

Headers are quiter at idle then manifolds because there's a LOT less turbulence in the exhaust flow. At WOT they're definetly louder

Re: Jet Hot Longtubes Installed!

I love my hooker LT's i installed mine by myself except for a friend held the header inplace once i got it in, and lined up so i could bolt it up.

i helped installed a pair on my buds 93. It was funny, him and his father didnt believe me that it has to go in from the bottom with starter, oil filter, dipstick removed and engine jacked up on pass side... They wanted to try fitting them in from the top. LOL i told them, "ok then im gonna go downstairs and watch some tv and call me when u are ready to make progress" lol hour later, "umm yea we couldnt get them in from the top can u help us?...."

passenger side sparkplugs are a doosey, I found the best way to install em is to Sit On Your LT1 and reach over with a plug already on a plug socket

I love my headers i went from best mph of: 105mph, to 108.4 plus the engine bay looks soo clean now.

Re: Jet Hot Longtubes Installed!

RickS what mods did you have when you trapped 105 sounds like you have a strong car. The longtubes made a big difference in my car the car jerks sideways easy now in 2nd and now gets third, it pulls so much harder. Think I might take my car back to the track next week and see how she does. Also how often should one retighten their header bolts? I went over them once so far.

Re: Jet Hot Longtubes Installed!

jbsupra89t I notice u live in New Jersey, do they have strict emissions up their? If not then I would definately go with the non emmission headers. This is were I made my mistake I ordered the emission. The egr fitting was a pita. It don't line up right and wouldn't allow the header to sit flush against the head because the fitting was laying on the head. So we had to bend the egr pipe, bend the egr fitting on the header, and grind the fitting using a bench grinder to make the fitting clear the head. And I didn't think the OVC wires would work with the AIR pipes in the way so I still ended up deleting the air system. Now I wished I'd went with non emissions. But good luck on whatever you decide to get and you'll love them.

Re: Jet Hot Longtubes Installed!

Nice job! Hope you heat wrapped everything. I know they are a bitch to install, but when you fire it up with open headers it is all worth it.

yeah I heat wrapped the fuel lines, abs wires, heater box, and extended knock sensor wire, starter wire, computer ground I think about 9 inches and heat taped them and then rerouted them.

Did anyone else notice a loss with longtubes? I have read that Lts are great for boosting torque. And when you extend the collector a few inches, you can pick up a few hp as well.
