Jet Hot Long tubes finally installed!!!! (pics)

I finally finished my Jet Hot long tube install!!!!! You can check out pics of the install here http://community.webshots.com/user/blown383 I wrote some comments with each picture.

The quality of the header is top notch, the flanges on the headers are really thick and unlike most headers the primary tubes are not pushed through and welded.

The only issues that I had with the headers was that the AIR tubes interfered with the over the valve cover looms, 2 spark plug wires are resting on the fittings.

So it just doesn't look as nice. In retospect it took me roughly 1.5 weeks to complete the project using the install guide at Brent Falkner's site. http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody...be_install.doc
Nothing was EXTREMELY difficult during the install....as long as I was patient and did things logically everything went smoothly. The most time consuming and tedious part of the install was rerouting and extending the passenger side fender wall wires. The extension I made for starter ground terminal kept on slipping off and getting the zip ties in the correct places suck. I also made my own o2 extensions and they work great. While reinstalling the starter...the cheap *** stock starter broke! The positive terminal snapped off the solenoid! I guess over time the composite material became brittle. So I was lucky enough to get a used high torque starter from Michael Leaf. The new starter cranks the car over quicker, is built better, quieter, and CHEAPER!!!! It fits perfectly and only required another long starter bolt.

The driver side when in with little effort but I had to jack up the motor on the passenger side to slip the header in, the passenger side header was REALLY REALLY tight! I also used Felpro header gaskets and Stage 8 locking header bolts. After everything was slapped together I forgot to install the dipstick and took the car for a test drive with open headers. Needless to say the motor spit up oil out of the block right on to my shiny new headers....and I ended up with white smoke EVERYWHERE The car sounds like a complete MONSTER with open headers.... I walked inside the house and things were rumbling and shaking off of the walls! I then took the car to the muffler shop to have a custom Y-pipe built with all mendral bends...it took them roughly 4.5 hours total to finish it. While I was there I also got my sub frame connectors welded in....I had those suckers for about 3 years now!

Plug access is great....I can reach all of the spark plugs with your typical Sears Craftsman 5/8 spark plug socket and a 3/4 inch wrench. You may have to remove the alternator to reach #2.

Thanks for those pics!
Is that Pepsi can above the headers?
I have Hal shocks and my front end sits a little bit lower.
I looked at a guys car last night with Hooker long tubes and he had about 2 1/2" of clearance with the pro kit.
How many inches of clearance do you have?

I want Jet hot long tubes but I don't think they wil clear with my shocks

Thanks
Tom

The headers sit right about where the sliver stripe is on the Pepsi can...so thats roughly 2.5 inches give or take 1/4 on an inch.

I didn't go with a dual set up because I'm tight on funds right now and the car mainly has bolt-ons. Duals for a bolt on car would have been OVERKILL. I'll consider the X-pipe with bullet mufflers in the future when I go with heads and cam.

Mind if I ask how much that Y-pipe ran you?

I'm looking at getting these headers as well, mainly b/c they're jet hot coated (right?), Long tubes, and have the smog provisions (not thta I'd pass, but I want to keep the stuff on there).

The custom Y-pipe ran $185 and cam with all provisions except for the correct fittings.

Has anyone had probs with the air tubes threading in on theirs? On mine the darn threads in the headers were caked up with the coating, its been a pain to get the air tubes in!!!!
