Jet Hot headers and K member tolerances

The more I search, the more people I see have had to notch (or drop) the K member like we did on my friends car. I am trying to anticipate the difficulty on mine.

I think that some cars entire K members tend to be shifted to the drivers (or passenger) side more than others... and therefore the motor.

I plan to measure my clearance when I go to put my Jet Hots in... but those who have Jet Hots (or Hookers) who had problems (or even if you didn't) If you had a few moments, could you measure the clearance from the lip of the drivers side valve cover where it meets the head directly horizontal to the drivers side inner body. I am going to be putting together an install guide when I do mine, and I want to formulate a really comprehensive theory on which cars will be hard and which won't. I plan to organize these measurements in my install guide.

I think there is a consistent factor in all of this madness and I want to find it to help out people who are going to undertake the install themselves.

I know that when I installed the drivers side that I had to grind down the lip on the A arm flat. It was sort of a biotch.

Also, what did you get for a measurement? Just so I know that I am measuring in the right spot.

I have yet to find a suitable tape measure or ruler yet... but I just thought of this.

I was going to go from the lip of the valve cover where it meets the head all the way over to the closest point on the drivers side inner body where the heat shield and whatnot is located.

why not measure the passenger side too.............i think that is the side that normally gives people the most probs.

my driver side took 5 minutes, while my passenger side too 2 days.

anyway, id go measure mine, but it wont be totally accurate because i replaced the passenger side motor mount when i put the headers in.

ok, from the rear part of the fender hump (it gets closest to the engine at rear), to the closest part of the valve cover.

passenger side 4"
driver side 5"

The manifold is sort of in the way but I came up with around 4 1/2" - 4 3/4" on the drivers side. I couldnt measure the passenger side.

how is the manifold in the way? i just measured from the closest part of valve covers, to the closest part of the fenderwell

if i measure from the heads, probably add an inch.

Manifolds come up above the valve cover interfering with my tape measure. I had to best guess it.
