Jet-hot headers installed today lots of problems
UPDATE CHECK PAGE 2 THANK YOU
Well where do i start. I get to the shop at 7:45am they start on my car (jet hot's, hooker y-pipe,ngk tr-55 plugs, taylor otvc wires for $450). First problem:
They didn't know i was using taylor otvc wires which are supposed to be more work since it come with the crimping tool and they have to cut the wires. More $
Alright thats cool then we get to problem two:
They said i need o2 extensions which i didn't have and didn't think i needed. One extra hour for them to make me some, plus more $.
Passenger side headlight goes out need a new one no big deal.
They finish the install final price $597.00 I leave at 4:45pm shop closes 5:00pm
They start the car its sound alright. I drive off thinking my car feels alittle weird. When stepping on the gas it was shaking alot in first gear. I thought maybe the car needed to warm up. Im getting on the freeway stepping on it a little and my exhaust has this "high pitch ricer" sound to it. Im on the freeway for maybe 10 minutes and look down my voltage is really low. The more i drive the lower the voltage is going. My SES light came on and stayed on the whole drive which it never has done. The car still sounds like crap through every gear and low rpms. The voltage ends up completely to the negative side. My headlight were really dim the inside lights were dim also. I pull off the freeway because i thought i wouldn't make it home (its a 1 hour drive) my car completely dies on me. Make a long story short i have to call AAA to tow my car home
Well what do you think "might" be the problem? My car ran perfectly before the install. What could be my problem with my exhaust sounding like that? I have jet hot lt's and hooker y-pipe and hooker catback 95 single cat firebird. This brings me to my next "newbie" question.
The guy who installed my stuff gave me back my old parts and he said "HERE'S YOUR CAT" does that mean im running with no cats? If so is it hard to put the cat back in? Would that have made my car sound to terrible?
Sorry if this is kind of long i just got home im tired and a little frustrated how my day went.
Thank you for any help I need it.

The hooker y-pipe you had is most likely an offroad y-pipe therefore deleting the cat. Its not hard to reinstall, just pay a muffler shop 30 buck and they will weld it on the i pipe. Your car shouldnt act that way after a header install. I wouldnt trust a place to do my cutsom wires, because they have to be crimped right and installed correctly on the opti, so you might want to start looking there, however the problem you describe sounds more like a dead battery, or a alternator problem, if they took it off to install the headers, did they re-connect everything?

The alternator is not charging.
Check all the wires (remember there should be two wires going to the alternator).
The noise and vibrations could be an exhaust leak. It could also be normal. Can you tell where the sound is coming from?

Here's the y-pipe i got from thunderracing part#66-16765

I hope that isn't the offroad y-pipe. So im not completely out of luck if it is?!
The whole car is shaking the AAA guy thought it might be the alternator also. Damme the sound is coming from the front of the car and the high pitch exhaust crap is coming from both the front and back i think
Could alternator problems effect the sound of the exhaust? Do you think my cat is out?
Thanks

Things I would check:
Belt installed correctly. If not, your alternator may not be functioning correctly.
All cylinders getting correct spark. The shaking makes me think something wasn't installed correctly with the plugs and wires. Maybe they got them out of sequence, or spark isn't getting to one or more cylinders.
Check the Headers for an exhaust leak. Could be the source of your sound problems.
Check to see if your alternator is functioning correctly. Many auto parts stores can test your alternator at the store.

Considering the alternator has to come out for the install, I'd check to make sure it's connected properly. They may have also "accidentally" loosened the post inside the alternator. If you find the alternator post is loose, feel free to use my site's guide to fix it:

Oh yeah, thats an Off-road pipe, and you have no cats on your car. Being that you live in Cali, you might be screwed. I dont think cats will help you out on passing their emissions. You did realize that long tube headers wouldnt pass theirs right? Or am I just an idiot and you dont even live there anymore? Whatever the case, you got an off-road pipe.
Oh and when you put it in Drive, or 1st and are not yet moving, does the car shake really bad? If so, you have some issues with your wires. Check to make sure they are all hooked up and installed in the right spot, and is your SES light blinking? Thats also a sign of a misfire, again check the wires. I had mad amounts of issues after I installed my Jet Hots, but I got no emissions!!

^^ How do you like how your car sounds? Have you heard your setup with no cats?
**** i thought i got the regular hooker y-pipe
Your telling me these two y-pipe aren't the same:
ls1speed: hok16765
thunderracing:66-16765
I thought those were both hooker y-pipe not the oryp
Don't worry transam41282 your not the idiot i am.
I thought i had the right parts. I knew i wouldn't pass the visual inspection but i thought i would pass the sniffer with the cat still there. What can i do about this now? Buy the real hooker y-pipe from ls1speed.com and sell the offroad one thats on their now? Is that my only option? Im still in Ca also.
Thanks for the info guys im taking the car back hopefully tomorrow to don lee auto.

eh.. if your car wasnt originally a cali car, being a 95 it would have one cat, so it may be after the y, just look under your car.
that sounds like a burnt wire or something,
and while he is driving his car should have still been getting correct voltage, unless his battery was just that dead.

here's the thing. On the LT-1's never trust anyone to do your Spark Plug wires but yourself. too many things to mess up...too many things that can go wrong. Pulley rubbing Missfires ETC ETC. On the Over Head Taylors Never have just any shop make them for you. THere's allot of Dead on issues that have to be correct for those to be trouble free. Any Credible Engine builder shop can set the wires up for you blind folded. I hope they did it right for you...Also You Altinator might not be chasrging up your battery properly or what ever the hell that thing does. If your lights are dimming ETC ETC. Probably did not connect the wires poperly one might be loose or not getting the right connection. IT's easy to do. Just check the Alti wiring. I think your biggest problem is your Cat issue. Never pannic any good muffler shoppe can hook you up! A pipe is a pipe to them they can bend and weld anything it's thier job. But I suggest investing in a High FLow cat. With Lt's Your stock cat might end up looking like Bagdad 2hours after impact. I blew my cat up with the stock headers. get a cheap Catco or something. A cat is a cat. Good luck dude
