Thats a really good price. It's $269 at Summit Racing. I ought to pick one up and hold on to it in preparation for the day my opti might decide to finally die on me.

Yeah, what's up with the no '94 model available??

And who cares who sells it, the manufacturer would seem a little more important to me.

I'm guessing Accel is taking their time getting into the market, and figure that the vented opti design was used on more vehicles... so theres more potential for profit. Either that, or the earlier design is still under development.

Asside from where you get it from, is an Accel opti even good? Mine is shot so I'm trying to decide what one I want to get.

What would worry me is the mention of an oil lite bushing . Last time I checked the opti had no bushings and had 1 bearing

Re: JcWhitney now sells the Accell Opti-Spark

Is there some reason why they couldn't make a 94-compatible vented opti? I mean all we're really talking about for the venting is a spot to hook up vacuum (via the intake tube) to the opti right? Does MSD make such an opti for 94s, could have sworn I heard something about this. Course I'm not paying $500+ for MSD's opti...

Is there anything else significantly improved on a vented opti?

There's a bit more involved in installing a vented opti than just hooking up vent tubes. This link outlines all the differences in design changes of the non-vented LT1's vs. the vented ones:

http://para.noid.org/~muttvette/opti.html

As you can see, in order for them to make a vented opti for the 93-94's that's a straight bolt-on, they'd have to make it a hybrid design that would fit those years' timing cover and camshaft drive profile as well. Seeing as how this is info that Accel already knows about and could have accounted for in their R&D, since they didn't make a vented design to fit those years to begin with my guess is they may not have plans to do it at all. However, this is not to say that whatever improvements they've made, (if any), over the original Opti's design still leaves venting as a necessity...

Ditto, for the vented Opti-Spark.
I know the vented Opti-Spark has a ball bearing, I've had them apart.

I never had an unvented Opti-Spark apart.
Do they have a bushing or a bearing?
