Jasper rebuilt engines

I've been here for a couple of years now, mostly with a '96 Z28 that
has'nt run in over 1 1/2 years......
Long sad story, anyhow I've read about every post on head gaskets
( my LT1 got hot and popped a head gasket) and Shoebox's excellent
tech pages.
Now I gots a question. Anyone here put a Jasper LT1 in their F body ?
Part of my sad story was getting hit by car on my motorcycle a couple
months after my Camaro stopped. Things are much better now, but
I want to start driving it again, and an engine with a warranty has
my attention.
So how about it ? Any yea's or hell no for Jasper ?
Thanks

PM jldak318 on here, he had one. I think his engine ran pretty good, but DON'T buy one of their trannys. I think he went through 3 or 4 in a year or something like that.

Just pick up a 355 replacement engine from Victory Racing IMO.

Jasper is about bottom of the barrel remanufactured engines. Likely OK for a commuter vehicle but not for a car you want performance from. Since you are here I think it safe to put you in the latter catagory even if you deny it now the bug will bite.

Agreed. Get the shortblock and then your own H/C combo, IMO.

Jasper has different lines. You really need to call and talk to them.
They offer from bottom barrel to Nascar ready.
NOT a big fan of their motors or trannies.

I appreciate the replys
Anyone in the Phoenix area have any work done by Top Gear Motorsports ?
They specialize in LT1 and LS1 vehicle work. Without taking it apart to see,
he is thinking about $2,000 -$2,500 to pull the heads, valve job, put a better cam(gm hot cam? I'm not sure) and put back together.
I just don't want to band aid this. I would like to do it once, right.
I should throw some info on a sign line, the car is an auto tranny,
cold air kit, flowmaster aftercat,AZ Speed and Marine throttle body, tune by
Pro Dyno in Tempe. On a 60 degree night at Speed World I had one killer run, 13.10 @ 101 mph
I have never cut a better light, either. My reaction time was .503 I think.
The performance bug hits hard all the time, I don't want to use Jaspers
if they are bottom barrel.
How many others here have done head gaskets only to throw a rod bearing or
similar problem shortly after ?

Never heard of Top gear. You should check out www.azfba.com Maybe they can steer you towards a good shop that is local. If you are already spending 2g, why not get some heads and matching cam from Lloyd?

I don't have a firm plan yet. I'll check out the Arizona F bodies site too.
I've been going back and forth between pulling the heads myself and
having a shop install a rebuilt motor. Been making car payments for
1 1/2 years now on something I have not been able to drive. Bummer.
If Chevrolet offered a crate LT1, I would scarf one up and be done
with it. Not available as far as I can tell.
The car has 94,000 miles and is in pretty good shape. I still don't know
what caused the coolant loss on the expressway. It was't leaking
before hand and then POW ! Drivers side of engine compartment wet
with coolant. After cooling and then refilling with water, it was
blowing compression out of the passenger side head gasket.
Temp guage did'nt get much above 1/2 mark.

I know a guy that is selling ported Lt1 heads and a matched ported intake. He said he'd sell it all for about $400 I think. PM if you want and I can get his contact info for you.

I have a Jasper in mine that I put in about 7 months ago and 13,000 miles. I've had a few MINOR problems (oil leaks) but they paid for it NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I had to go with a Jasper because of time, money & warranty. They warranty labor, fluids & everything else with Jasper! You can't beat a 3/75 warranty for Parts & Labor!
I've heard MANY good things about Victory & I wish I would have looked into them more, but I can say that the Jasper is just fine and has some nice power. BUT I will say that I would NOT get a Jasper transmission! They are the pits! If I had the time and didn't care about a 75,000 mile warranty (not sure of Victory's warranty, so please look on their site, it may be the same!), I would have got one with a little more "Ummphh" from a vendor here.
Peace,
Mike

Thanks for the reply Mike. I've been in touch with Victory Racing Engines,
a local LT1/LS1 shop and Jasper. I'm trying to make the best informed
decision I can. The warranty is what got me thinking about Jasper too,
that and the availablity of an LT1 long block.
Circumstances forced me to park my Z for a long time, now I'm getting
ready to start driving it again.
