It's a 95, what kind of scanner?

I recently bought a 95Z so it is OBD1, correct? If so can't I check for codes with a jumper wire? If not what brand of scanner should I get?

No paper clip tricks for '94 up. Here's a guide for scanners you can use.

Not sure what you mean. You plug in a scanner to the ALDL and read the codes or monitor the computer.

i was just talking about what shawn and anaik were mentioning...the good old OBD1 paperclip trick. Thats where you connect the diag pin of the connector (at least i think thats the one) to ground and it flashes out the trouble codes through the check engine light. Ive used it many times on my truck, which is a 91, and on other cars. Never had to try it with the TA though, cause i never had a trouble code until right before i went off to school. But i could have sworn that my chilton manual said you could still do it even with the new connector...you just have to ground the right pin. I may be wrong though, its been a LONG time since ive seen that book.

'93 was the last year you could short the terminals out in an F-body. You need a code puller or a scan tool to use on '94 and up.

The refurb Autoxray units are the cheapest scan tools you will find. Autoxray works good.

I have been using an Autoxray for many years. My latest one does OBD-I and II. I also use TTS Datamaster with a laptop on my Z.
