I am rebuilding my motor to a 355 and I am going to buy a forged eagle crank. Certain places that you can buy them say they are internally balanced already and some show you can pay the company that you are buying them from an extra $150 dollars to have them balance it before they ship it to you. Should I trust them to do this or just have a machine shop do this? Also if I have it internally balanced is the flywheel or is it the harmonic balancer that has to be neutral? Also do any of you recommend external over internal balance? Thanks for any help.

 

I know the flywheel needs to be neutral balanced. 100 bucks doesn't sound bad. I had my eagle balanced by my engine builder, which cost was in the total bill, so I don't know what he charged me. The supposed advantage is that the weight is closer to the centerline of the crank, requiring less energy to move. Also if you ever wanted to go to a light weight flywheel, you are ready for a bolt on application.
