Interesting problem...easy fix?

Ok so heres what my camaro is doin

Its a 95 Z28.

Basically it runs fine for the first 20 minutes, then the temperature starts creepin up. If the air conditiong is off it will start to rise to the red mark, but only in stop and go. If its on the open highway the temp is like 170 or 180.

If the air conditioning is ON though, the temperature will normally stay below or right around 200, and wont creep up like it does with the A/C off.

Also as it gets hotter, small amounts of white smoke (maybe a slight blue color in it, not quiet sure if its oil) will start comin out the back...but only when it gets above about 210 degree or so

And another thing....my oil pressure gauge at a stop light will go down and hover around the 0 mark (not in the red, just right above it). When I give it gas or i'm on the highway just cruisin it'll be in the middle at a normal operating pressure. Not sure whats going on here, or if its a normal thing.

Try some heavier oil. Ya might be running some too thin.

Try some streight 30 and see. No guarantees but it might help and change filter brands like a AC.
If ya still got the oil cooler it may be causing problems too.

Re: Interesting problem...easy fix?

the reason it isnt overheating with the ac on is because the ac kicks on both fans.maybe you have a bad relay that wont kick on the second fan without the ac on.just a guess.the smoke is an indication of oil burning or a head gasket....but if its bad it should do it all the time...my oil pressure is good when i first start up the engine and when it warms up it starts to drop to 0 as well.after changing the oil i found i had metal in the oil clogging the filter...something is grinding away just dont know what until i rip it apart.lucky i have a new 396 getting built.hope you get it fixed and its nothing major.

change your oil use engine flush (like seafoam or engine restore) before you drain that old oil then switch to a good quality oil and filter.

Check that relay as stated above. Flush your cooling system and change the thermostat to a 160 degree. It won't affect the temp unless you change the temp the fans come on but will cycle the coolant SOONER.

DO NOT put an additive in it.
Don't believe me do a search about the engine rebuilds that has caused.

the morons who ruined their engines by using engine flush products did not follow directions. you first need to drain out enough oil so adding the product won't overfill the pan then you add the product and start the motor.
DO NOT DRIVE IT
DO NOT REV IT
just idle it for 2 or 3 minutes then change your oil like normal. ONLY USE the recomended ammount more is not better and only do an engine flush at the 100k mile mark (usually 1 or 2 times in a car's life) I have done this to more engines then I can remember and have NEVER had one break or blow up.

did you read the posts in that thread? They where DRIVING the cars with the cleaner in the oil! For crap sake your not suppose to drive the god damn car when you put cleaner in the oil! That is just a stupid thing to do! You put in the cleaner you run the engine at idle in park or neutral then change out the oil. Put fresh oil in WITH NO CLEANER IN THE NEW OIL, complete your oil change.

I dont ever recomend engine flush either. If dont right, it should be ok, but what is it really doing? What is the benifit? If it breaks up large buildups of crap in the engine, it can plug the pickup screne and spin bearings. If you use a good oil and change it when you're supposed to crap wont build up in the first place.
