There is no substitute for hands-on experience. Sounds like you did some good diagnosis. So, the stock lifters cannot handle stronger springs? I wonder what the threshold is to determine if stock lifters should be replaced with aftermarked lifters.

WhyHelloOfficer, did you get a confirmation on that part number? I'm curious too.

I actually ended up going with a GMPP Lifter kit -- which is OE Replacement lifters along with all new hardware that comes with it (new guides, retainer, and bolts).

The summit part number is NAL-12371042.

I think the stock lifters can handle stronger springs, I'm pretty confident my issue was the nitrous backfire went lean and here we are today.

As far as an update goes, while waiting for parts I decided to rip off everything and give it a thorough cleaning, as well as a little bit of paint on the intake manifold.

A close up of my red hot painting skills:

Anyways -- so I got my lifters and all the other crap today. I threw on a new set of percey's header gaskets (just for a c.y.a.). The new lifters are in along with new GMPP Guideplates and new pushrods. When I was putting the rocker arms back on, I noticed something:

I've got a feeling that this could quite possibly be the culprit. Any opinions?

Also with a little searching online, I found a GM Part Number (For those who care) -- its a replacement GM 1.6 Roller Rocker found in the '96 Lt4 Motors : GM# 12557779

Do you think there could be damage to the valve or spring?

During my compression test that cylinder was low(er) than others, but nothing that would have really thrown up a red flag.

Do you think the GM Part I found for the LT4 1.6 Roller Rocker would be the same that is found in the LT4 Hotcam Kit?

Got the new rocker in and the entire car buttoned back up.

The chirp is gone!

One last question: With the new set of lifters what sort of break-in do I need to do with them?

Thanks again for all of the help guys!

I'm not aware of any lifter break-in cycle. As long as they are primed they should be good to go.
