Intake manifold bolt treads

I did my intake manifold gaskets today and when i went to put in the rear passenger side bolt somehow i think i cross threaded it. Know when i go to put it in, it will turn about 5 times then it stops and will not go any further. Does this mean i need to retap the hole or just clean up the treads? I'm pretty lost right now and i need help asap. Any advise will be apreciated.

I would pull the intake back off so that you can see the threads. That way you can see whats wrong. If you cross threaded it it may be the threads that you messed up stopping the bolt from going in.

I already did pull the intake off. I looked down in the hole and i could see that some of the aluminum was pretty eaten up but their are still plenty of good thread under the bad ones. i just cant get the bolt deep enough, it just stops dead after like 5 turns. I need to find a way to fix this.

I've tripple checked the bolt. Its the right one. Ive been trying to clean out the treads in the hole with some dental equipment but its not doing anything. How do i retap the hole, or is their another way to fix this?

Chase the bolt threads with a die, and the head threads with a tap. Everything will go back together like butter!

sounds great! but what do you mean? I have no idea about metal working or tappig threads. So if you could explain or tell me what i need... It would be extremely helpful.

If you're totally unsure of the thread size, just take the bolt in to any machine shop and ask them to measure the bolt and get the thread pitch. Write it down and run down to Sears or something and get yourself the right sized die for it. Make sure the die is SQUARE in the hole before you thread it in. Run it in and out of the hole until it feels smooth. If you didn't screw up the threads too badly in the first place I wouldn't worry too much about using a helicoil.

Good luck!
