Intake Manifold

I'm finally putting back on my intake manifold from getting it powdercoated, so I just want to double check I have everything in order before I begin to put it back on

I bought the gaskets and some ultra copper RTV...I'm pretty sure that I have to make a fat bead of RTV on the front and back of manifold, and then line the rim of the gasket with a light coat of the RTV, please correct me if I'm wrong..

I have not yet used any chemicals to clean the mating surfaces and just got off the big stuff, wut would anyone recomend to clean the mating surfaces with to get all the gasket residue off...

When I have it installed I am gonna run it for 5 min. then do an oil change to get all sorts of dirt out that might have fell in...

Please reply if you have anything to add to my list of things to do or get

Thankyou very much

Re: Intake Manifold

you should be able to pick up some spray on gasket remover at a parts store, cant remember the name of the stuff off hand but it works great

after you clean up the mating surfaces on the block, score it with a razorblade like this /////////// all the way across it then apply the sealant
be generous with the sealant, dont wanna have to pull it again. let the sealant tack up for a few minutes before you put the intake back on and let it sit overnight before starting it up

Re: Intake Manifold

If you score it like ///////, won't that give the oil avenues to leak out? Maybe if you don't go to the edge with it, you would be ok. I dimpled my block surface with a punch. Don't overdo it with the RTV as excess can find it's way into the oil pump pickup.

I did not use any RTV on the gasket, but some put a thin film on it.

yes shoebox, i think that could be possible, altho i havent any problems with mine
but it might be good insurance to not take the scratches all the way to the edge...

Slotting the block will only inhibit oil leaks. Like Rob said, dimpling is a much better route to take.

As for the intake manifold gaskets, I put them on dry, and used a 1/4" thick bead of black RTV on the front and back, going up 1/2" onto the heads on both sides.
