installing aftermarket speakers
installing aftermarket speakers
I have 1995 camaro w/ bose but with an aftermarket head unit. I was originally using the bose speakers by using a bose adapter (peripheral gmah21) until I recently changed all of them out for better aftermarket speakers. To install the speakers in the rear seat side panels, I siimply cut the factory harnesses and spliced into the factory wires. I left the bose adapter installed in the car. I now do not hear any sound out of these new aftermarket rear seat side panel speakers.
Does anybody know what the problem is?

Don't ask me Ohm questions, but here is the basics of your problem. Your adapter is dropping the output from your Head Unit and forwarding it on to the Bose speakers which ALL have their own built in amp. So, with your new speakers that do not have amps built into them, they are not capable of taking the low output and turning it into something to hear. Take your adapter off and all should be ok. Or, if your adapter is adjustable, you might can try adjusting it up so the output to the speakers is higher. Hope this helps, if not, try the audio forum.
I just reread your post, you can't mix and match Bose with other speakers. You need to have all Bose, or all aftermarket. It just won't work, something is going to blow.

To answer the impendance question, bose speakers have a lower impendance (1 or 2 homs) most aftermarket speakers have an impendance of 4-8 ohms.
So do what Rene said, remove the adapter, and use all aftermarket speakers.
