Did it overheat Before you changed the Wp?

Did you bleed the system? Also, you did plug in the temp sending unit back up, right

Bleed the system with the two bleed screws when the car is running.

Did the temperature go WAY up really fast on the temp guage quickly after you started it? If that's the case, the fans didn't come on because the PCM gets it's temp reading directly from the wp housing temp sensor (not the one on the driver side head), and the liquid in there wasn't to the high temperature required for the fans to come on.

the temp hand slowly went up, and the sensor that lets the computer turn on the fans is the one that plugs in the bottom side of the waterpump isnt it?

Yes, the one on the bottom side of the WP. Did the guage slowly go up as in a couple minutes, or as in many minutes. It just looks to me like it needs to be bled properly. Since you haven't said you have done it, I'm still assuming you haven't, therefore, you have to bleed the system otherwise it won't be a correct working system and it will be showing very high temperatures in a relatively short time. It doesn't like air. If you need to know how to do it there is a picture on http://shbox.com/1/bleeders.jpg showing what the bleeders look like. That site is awesome, there are all kinds of how tos on there - www.shbox.com .

Good luck.

id say about 5 minutes,, i came in and changed clothes and went to get in it and it was already hot,, i hope that is it,, would that be the reason the fans arent coming on? but steam was coming out of the cap from the radiator

Had that happen to me too. Hooked up a coolant line wrong, and i think it was feeding coolant to the exhaust mani through some black box and making lots of smoke which made me think it was a head gasket. The dumb sh*t I am

the sensor that turns on the fans is the temp sending unit which is ont he driver side head if you unplug it the fans wont come on, this is ho it is on my car and most of my other freidns car. the fans come on around 217 stock so if it is reading around there it is fine.

Did you make sure a put the female-to-female rod back on the back side of the water pump? The cam spins a dowel that connects to this female rod then spins the other dowel on the water pump. If it is no there the water pump doesn't turn

Roadtrip.. you may be right but I really hope not. That shaft is used to turn the water pump. But you can be doing some serious meltdown damage if that wasn't installed.

Any extra pieces lying around?

It happened to me too.Your vehicle is air locked which means like fastwhiteta said you need to bleed the air from your cooling system with the vehicle running.Six months ago i had to change the wp on my camaro alsowhich turned out to be more work than I anticipated. When I finnally got everything bolted up I started my car up and looked for leaks soon after I could see steam coming from my engine I hoped inside my vehicle and my coolant temp guage had skyrocketed.I turned my car off and made sure I remembered to plug in the coolant temp sensor.I looked in my car manual and it called for bleeding the air from the cooling system. It took awhile ,but I finnally got the vehicle to stop wanting to overheat.
