Injector O-Ring lubrication or not?

Injector O-Ring lubrication or not?
When installing new injector o-rings into the fuel rails, should the o-rings be lubricated with anything? I was told that motor oil may actually cause the rubber to break down faster. Is this true?

I use this stuff, can't beat it for rubber isolator and o-ring installations http://www.ipcol.com/prod-p80.htm

I am by no means a dealer or rep for these guys but this stuff works. Also, take a look at this application chart for the other uses.

Re: Injector O-Ring lubrication or not?
I have been an engineer in the "sealing" industry for about 10 years. So, I'm familiar with most all o-ring compounds. The safest lubricant to use for assembly purposes are water based lubricants. These are pretty much safe on every rubber compound. However, they are not readily available...unless you want to go buy some KY Jelly. But, KY does work well That being said, most injector o-rings are Nitrile-Butadiene...better known as Perbunan, Buna-N, or BUNA. These are suited for contact with petroleum based lubricants. A better o-ring choice would be Fluorocarbon...better known as VITON. VITON cost a little more than BUNA, so the OEM's go with the cheaper material. If you want to go exotic, you could use KALREZ...but they are $50/ea in this size range

Ill agree it doesn't matter what you use because any lube is better than none at all. If you dont lube the O-rings then you risk tearing them. I didnt use lube once and thought it was alright till a few weeks down the road an O-ring sprung a leak! Be careful.
