Important ? (like aren't they all lol)

im going into Basic training soon (Air Force BABY!!!) and my Z is here at my parents, the timing cover got messed up at the bottom (my fault stupid a$$ me , put the selas in the cover WITHOUT it being bolted to the block, hence the bottom lip sticks out some and out and oil hits the exhasut and smokes a bit, used gasket sealant but it didn't block it off much) anyways, cuz it leaks and i don't want my mom to have to try to check ther oil level everytime b4 starting it up for idle I think im gunna just drain all the oil out, and pull out the batt. and wait till i get back from Basic and tech and have a shop put a brand new cover with seals and T/C gasket, and under drive pulley (while the'yre there why not have them do it ) (why am i dong it by myself, have u ever tried putting that keyless hub back on without f-ing up the crank threads?? lol) ANYWAYS ive had her sit for long periods of time b4 and never had any problem but is there anything u guys suggest for the car that i can do that might save me in the end from any unexpect "fun" little trials and tribulations??

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Depends on how long its gonna set so basically your tires dont get flat spots or whatever you want to call it, and if you do put it on stands support the car by the axles so your suspension doesnt have stress on it.

Off to Lackland for you!!! And such good timing with summer and all. (I went through during the summer months as well.) Can you say "Black Flag?"

Sorry no advice--good luck by the way.

If you are going to be one for a very long time, coat everything with protectant, the last tank run stabilizer through it, as mentioned, put it on jackstands, I don't know why you would drain the oil out, maybe someone could enlighten me, but draining the oil doesn't make sense.

leave most of the fluids in there, make sure the tank is full (avoids moisture buildup) and put some fuel stabilizer in it. Pull the battery and put it up off the ground somewhere. get the car off the ground, then coat the tires with a decent silicone based tire protectant (don't wipe off). Wash/wax it before you go too to make sure nothing is stuck on the paint that will embed itself in that time. Spray the brake rotors down with WD-40 to avoid rust. If your really worried about it theres a company out there that makes a bag you can drive your car into, then place some moisture absorbant around it and its pretty much good for a long time.

When you get back, change the oil, turn the key a few times so the fuel pump can get the gas up to the rail, then you should be good to go.

I would leave the oil in, just in case someone decides to do you a favor and start it up.

Dude, Air Force "Boot Camp" is only like 6 weeks long, you won't need to go through the entire process of "winterizing" the car. Draining the oil isn't a good idea. Once you drain it, you can get condensation and then rust deposits, not to mention the oil pump will probably have to be primed again. I would just throw something under the car to catch the oil, get back from "Boot Camp" and fix it. Oh yeah BTW, good luck trying to pick up a Zoomie woman, they only like Marines

Keeping the battery off the ground is just a myth. At least thats what Iv'e read. But then again I still do it.

Usually, directly after Basic Training you are shipped off to your Tech School. And though he may have holidays off--they'll probably have a certain limit as far as how many miles he can travel from the base--he certainly won't be flying home to Florida.

My point being--he'll be gone longer than 6 weeks.

Now for some useful advice, vacuum and clean out your car and make sure you have nothing in there that some other type of plant or animal matter can use as food to grow up big and strong. (Like no soggy french fries or hamburger buns sitting in the back seat.)
