Importance of a crossover tube...

I really really want to do a custom duals setup, but i am low on money these days. Obviously the more work a shop does the more it cost and vice versa. I was just wondering if it would hurt anything by not having a cross over tube on the duals? Whats the difference (in performance) between having one and not having one?

not an xpipe... this situation would just be with an hpipe situation. Many people just run pipes off the headers (no crossover/hpipe) and go straight to the mufflers. Im just wondering if its bad for the motor or bad for performance in not having a pipe connecting the two pipes?

Scavenging effect produced by an X pipe will help performance.

I think the most important point to get here is that X and H pipes equalize the backpressure. A single pipe running off of each header runs the risk of having more backpressure on 1 side of the motor than the other which isnt good.
