Impala head gasket...Is there a top & a bottom surface

As the title says.

I am putting the heads on and the Impala head gasket cleary is different on both sides and there is no indication of a top surface.

One side shows more of the actual metal sealing surface than the other.
Does it matter?

I also have just run across the same issue. I would think that the metal goes down, but it would be great to know for sure.???

I was told it did not matter, I would just make sure that they are both one way or the other.

I just took one of my heads off and the metal was facing the head. I know this cuz I thought the block was shot until I took it off.Hopefullly it was on the right way before I took it off.

I just put my heads on and used the side that was facing up in the package as facing towards my heads, if that makes sense.
