Angry I'm tired of this noise!

Here's the deal, A few months back I had my lifters replaced because I had a ticking noise comming from my drivers side for a while. Went ahead and put some 1.6 promags while it was apart. The noise went away. Now the noise is back. The exact same noise comming from the drivers side. I put a stethiscope on the valve covers and it doesn't sound like it's comming from a loose rocker arm. So what could it be. Another bad lifter? I just replaced them. Does this sound like it's time for a rebuild or what? The car only has 130K. Any ideas?

Re: I'm tired of this noise!

If you are hearing the noise from inside the car or outside with the hood closed, you may have something wrong with the valve train, however, RR do make noise. I have SA RRs but it seems that the Driver's side is always a bit noisier than the Pass side dunno why.

At any rate, since the Driver's side is easier to get to, I suggest pulling the cover and doing some more investigation. It may be that you just need to readjust one or more rockers.

Rather than listening to the valves through the cover with a scope, you really need to see the valves and nail it down to the culprit (s). JMHO

I agree with Bubba. Pull the cover and check it out. If it was something else in the bottom end, there should be metal shavings in the oil. If a rocker was overtightened and trashed a lifter, should have a loose rocker when you pull the cover.

Re: I'm tired of this noise!

I have NSA RR's and when they were first installed they barely made any noise. My pass. side valve cover is easier to take off because I have that traction control box sitting on top of my drivers side. The noise is pretty loud, you can hear it better when it's under load. By the way, it only makes the noise after it warms up. When I first start the car in the morning it's quite.

I just changed the oil, no metal shavings. I'll try to pull the covers off tonight after work. Hard to find time to work on it because the car is my daily driver. I just don't get how after replacing the lifters my car is making the same exact noise. Could my old lifter have worn a bad spot on my cam?

Get a piece of garden hose and listen around the driver's side exhaust flange for an exhaust leak. Maybe the tick isn't the valvetrain at all?

I agree with Stoopalini, I had the same tick and thought it was a lifter. It was actually an exhaust leak from the header flange. Run your hand around the flange and feel for some exhaust pulses leaking through.

Re: I'm tired of this noise!

Well it's not an exhaust leak, and you can tell the noise is metal to metal. I took it to three different shops and I know the people pretty well and they all believe I have a bad wrist pin. So I guess I going to have to go with a rebuild. I plan on going with one of loyds packages, but what else should i get with it. I'm not planning on spending alot and I don't plan on using any power adders with the new setup. Let me know what you think.
