I'm Tired of Being a Newb - Cam Info This Time

So when it comes to upgrading a cam I know nothing, so it becomes a kind of difficult task when looking for a better cam. So pretty much I need someone to kind of do a run down on cams for me, here are a few specific questions I have though:

1. I know a cam can go from Mild to Wild, when reading a cam's specifics, what numbers indicate this?

2. I've hear of cam shaft kits, do these come with everything needed to do a cam switch? Or am I just retarded?

3. I'm looking for a cam for my car, I want something that will improve performance, but still be good for a daily driver. I heard the Comp Cam 305 and the Comp Cam 503 (I could be wrong) would suit my needs, if this is correct can someone give me a link to where to purchase these cams?

As you can see, I don't know much. So anything you can really tell me about cams, and upgrading them, would be greatly appreciated.

PS - Thank you to everyone who has been helpful with all of my recent questions. Many other forums aren't very "Newb" friendly and make asking simple questions almost embarrassing. Big thumbs up to Cz28.com.

Either of those cams you mentioned, the CC305 or CC503 are good streetable cams and can purchased thru several of the supporting vendors. Although these cams are not part of an official kit, I know in the past a couple of the vendors put together everything needed in one big package.

You need gears before a cam.

The 305 should not be considered.

The 503 is approaching as bis as you should consider with stock heads on a stock shortblock.

I can only think of one place selling truely complete kits still leaves out the gaskets so there is no one kit with every piece you need.

One important thing to consider when talking cams is to tell us whether emissions testing is a concern.

I suggest you go with a GMPP Hotcam kit. You get a step up from stock,
a nice lope, and it will pass smog. Do you have 3.42 gears.

I have the stock gears (2.72 I think in my Year), but I'll be changing these to 3.73's soon, and yes, I need to be able to pass emissions.

If it doesn't come with a kit, what all needs to be changed?
