Angry I'm a moron! (transmition related)

so i'm on my way to work this morning (mind you I just got my 5000rpm miss fixed with a new coil - I'm very excited) and I'm already zippin' around cause my car is running perfect for the first time in a long time...and I come accross an LS1 very stock looking...anyways...we line up a the stop lights and have a little fun.

So you wonder why I'm a moron? well on the 3rd run i miss shift from 2 to 1 - never got it in 1 but grinding, car bucked a little (ok maybe more then a little) so i punched the clutch and let go of the shifter.

Everything *seems* ok...maybe it's paranoia but the tone (sound) of the car at idle seems a litte deeper and the feeling you get through the shifter seems a little raw. What happens to the trans when you do a miss shift like that?

On that note, before all of this, at idle with the clutch out you can kinda hear some grinding sounds coming from the console - knowing nothing about transmitions it just sounds like 2 metalic wheels spining in oposite directions of each other and rubbing. Press the clutch in a it goes away. Also, in 1st gear from a stop, you can really hear a grind when the car gets going...i think it goes away..but my exhaust is so loud i wouldn't know. The guy i bought the car from had already had a new clutch put in (2.5 years ago). Anything I need to worry about?

Thanks,
MJ.

Since i was worried, i went out for a little spin. I'm having a hard time getting the car going from stop. seems like the clutch is slipping...although i have no idea what that would feel like. There's definatly something wrong. what usually happens when you miss shift like that?

normally doing a miss shift like that would hurt the engine more than the tranny. But not always. one problem you seem to have is you throw out berrin (M/S) maybe bad. (that is the thing that goes in the engine block behind you flywheel) It being 2.5 years this is kinda normal altough they can last longer. With the gringing, you may have damage the sincronizer. I would take it to you local mechanic (someone you trust) and let them hear.

This maybe something you want to ck on pretty quick. the bolts on you fly wheel or clucth could have work there selves a little loose.

Good Luck!!!

by they way did you out run the ls1?

to see if your clutch is slipping, take the car out on the interstate in 6th gear and punch it. if it just bogs down your ok. if the rpm's shoot up without moving the car any faster, you clutch is slipping. normally, a missed shift like this will cause more damage to the engine. if the tranny is shifting fine, i would just keep the fluid changed fairly frequently and you should be fine.

I outran the ls1 all times until i miss shifted...I'm not really proud though, the guy couldn't drive, he spun off the line every time.
What kind of engine damage would something like this cause? I was already taking the car in for plugs and wires on the pass side on sun (a friend of mine is a manager at a service station, lets me use his bays) so i will have him check out the noise!

thx for the feedback.
