The way I do it. Fill the tank up and remember how many gallons you put in the tank. When the tank gets to "E", divide the miles you put on the tripometer by how many gallons you put in the tank last time you filled up.

I've heard this one. fill up each time you get gas, and then divide the number of miles traveled since last fill up by the galons you just put in.

Which one is correct?

Thanks, I've been doing it wrong for a long time. For some reason, the right way boggles my mind.

I do it the second way since you don't know exaclty how much gas you used if you use the first method.
