I'm going through TPS's often!

i'm about to fix the third TPS voltage low code on my 95 Z28.

i've been replacing the sensor with the autozone/advance auto gp sorensen one. i've also had teh pigtail replaced too. i just bought a GM TPS this time from teh dealership.

is there a fault with the aftermarket TPS sensors? or is there some trick to make them last longer or something? i'm getting tired of spending money avery few months replacing this stupid sensor. it's not that it's hard to replace or that costly (although the GM TPS we 63 bucks versus the 20-25 for the gp sorensen) it's the principle of the matter that i gotta keep dumping money on this thing to keep it running right.

anyone else experiencing these problems?

Never replace sensors with what autozone sells.

called my mechanic/advisor and he said he had an oldsmobile and his impala SS LT1for a while that was going through TPS sensors like crazy too.

he said once they replaced it with the expensive GM one, it didnt throw the code for several years

No way around it.

Check your engine to chassis grounds. Sometimes the contact points get corroded or the wires themselves break down. Clean, inspect, or replace these and see if your problem will go away.

it doesnt shift properly, doesnt go into lockup, idles really high 1500-2000, it just runs like garbage

i also found that there are three wires loose on the front of the drivers side head.

two white/beige color ones that i have no clue where they go to, and a black one, but i found the connector that the black one goes to and it's the ground wire that attaches to the head. gonna replace that one and see if that helps

but what would two beige wires be right there, the coil is hooked up as well as the ICM.

Does your car have emissions?

Could possibly be the wires that used to go to the air pump.

I got a bad non-GM replacement TPS. Voltage would fluctuate if you wiggled the connector. Was like that out of the box. +1 for GM parts.

When I was having TPS problems the car would throw the low TPS voltage code (32? 33? can't remember which one it was) and have a hard time finding idle. Also occasionally at part throttle it would hiccup (due to the computer losing the sensor's signal). What made me narrow it down to a bad ground is that my headlights and voltmeter would constantly flicker ever so slightly. Once I replaced all my grounds I had no more problems. Hope this helps.

fixed the TPS with a gm unit. that code went away.

fixed a ground wire

now the car is having trouble sparking on number 8, and it died on me twice on the way to campus today. took it back and drove the civic again

but i'm getting really really fed up with this car and need it to be fixed soon. tired of it sitting in the carport laughing at me cuz i can't drive it.

opti is new, coil is new, ignition control module is 6 months old. wires are about 2 years old, and plugs are about 4 months old they are autolite 103's gapped at 35-58

Are you using a stock throttle body or aftermarket one?

I just replaced mine and I am now experiencing what appears to be a faulty TPS. My original TPS followed the car through three throttle-bodys and was fine, until I got a high-voltage SES. Replaced it and the problem was solved. Now the car will run fine, then the idle just leaps up to about 1500 and won't come down unless I turn it off/on. Replaced the IAC motor, hoping that was the problem, but it wasn't. No leaks discovered or other obvious problem. TPS bad again? Hmmm. The other day, while troubleshooting with autotap, i noticed that the TPS was reading about 20% open, but the throttle was closed. No SES however.
