I'm Going 383 and have Questions
Well, I'm going 383 on my LT1. I was wondering because I plan on using nitrous 100-175 maybe 200hp, If a Scat 9000 series crank can handle the abuse it's not going to be constant nitous use but ocasional. I also planed on using there 4340 I beams with cap scew 7/16 bolts and either Mahle or Probe pistons. I have the LE3 heads and cam package. So what do you think about the Crank should I go forged or will I be okay?? How much power will it be able to handle??
Thanx

Re: I'm Going 383 and have Questions
for the kind of nitrous use you want to do, good pistons are key. I have nothing against probe or mahle, but i'd definately choose diamond pistons if i were going to spend that kind of money. They have been proven to be very effective power adder pistons. Scat i beams are sufficient and any good quality 4340 crank will work, too. Most people don't have a problem going with scat i beams and a 5340 crank. If you're going to try and save any money anywhere in the engine, do it on the crank, within reason of course. stock lt1 cranks are badass as they are, so any good quality 5340 piece or 4340 piece will do a great job for such nitrous shots. remember, many stock bottom end lt1's run 150 shot for a long time. it's all in the tuning for engine longevity
Re: I'm Going 383 and have Questions
The Scat 9000 series crank will take years of occational nitrous use, especially the small amount youre thinking of. Like mentioned before, don't skimp on the piston with nitrous. The Scat 4340 Rods are ver very nice peices. I have freinds that have used them, sand I have a set in the box right now that I am going to use and if looks alone mattered, they almost look like the low level Carillo rod (but we know that can't be comparable).
Re: I'm Going 383 and have Questions
Also I have found that CNC motorsports has some of the cheapest name brand cranks I have seen. For instance An Eagle 4340 Forged non-twist crank (internal balanced 1 peice rear main seal) is 522$ shipped.
