Exclamation I'm Clueless, need opinions please.

Alright, my car has a miss in the #8 cylinder. We know it's #8 because when you unplug the injector the engine never slows down. The Injectors are fine as we switched them around and had the same result. The car is smoking quite a bit. The valves have been adjusted once with the car off.

Could it be the opti not sending a spark to the cylinder, should we adjust the rockers with the engine running??? I'm at a loss.

P.S. We hooked a computer up to it and it is showing quite a bit of knock. It ranged from 1-4 on some type of Mac Tools scanner.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong.

well you eliminated the injector but have you tested the plug and the wire?

can you swap the plug with a different cylinder?? i am not trying to be a smart a$$ but just looking at the plug doesn't tell you for sure that it's good. pick up a new plug on the way home just for troubleshooting purposes. how many miles on that opti??

quite a few, my buddy has an opti out of a parts car we might swap out as a last resort if nothing else seems to work.
I was thinking about going ahead and getting new plugs.
I wish the bad one wasn't on the #8 cylinder though, that thing is a bitch to get out.

Have you verified that there is spark at the plug wire? Pull the plug wire off the plug, turn the engine over, and see if you get spark jumping from the wire to the block. That'll test your opti.

Heh, I guess I could have been more clear...

Pull the plug wire off the plug, and rest it somewhere so that the connetor is about 1/2" away from the block. Keep your hand away from the general area, but the spark is going to jump (if it exists) from the wire to the block. Watch while someone in the car cranks over the engine. It'll be easier if it's darker, say in a garage.

HAHAHAHA. That is funny. It reminds me of the time I grabbed the spark plug end on our lawnmower while it was running. I was about 5, it put me on my rear!

Thanks for the good laugh.

You might want to swap the injector with one on a different cylinder also. Maybe that one isnt working right and little or no fuel is getting to #8.

Well, unfortunately it's starting to look like it's the opti-spark.
There goes this week's paycheck, and probably next week's paycheck.

Hey man do a search for Dal he is a parts supplier for a dealership and he has great prices I just got a vented opti for $198 the un-vented that you will need is more expensive but giv him a call 1-877-448-5451. Maybe you should consider doing a vented opti conversion. Not sure what you need to do for that but just a idea.

I was thinking of doing a vented opti swap, but didn't know if I would need anything else or if they swapped out no problem.

Anyone know?
