Ignition trouble?

I just started my 383 up on tuesday, it fired right up first try but made a noise when at 1k rpm or so. I only had it going for a minute or so but it ran perfectly. So i tore it down and saw the the raised lettering for the part number on the cam gear was scratching my timing cover, nothing too bad. Not a lot of metal in the oil. So i grinded a lot off the timing cover and put everything back on. I go to start it today and it fired right up but wasn't running too great. I double check the plug wires, and i had two crossed. I start it up again and instead of being smoother it's rougher, the idle is jumping around and exhaust just smells bad. Now it's at the point where the car dosn't even try and run unless i pump the gas.

The optispark has like 3 minutes of running time on it. The wire to optispark is a new casper unit. The coil wire is new, the clip on the inside of the other one broke, so I used some taylore wires and terminals I had left over and made a new one. The coil and ICM are old, but it worked fine tuesday.

I don't get how it could of ran perfectly fine before, then tear it apart, put it back together and now nothing. Either i screwed something up or optisparks are the devil.

Any ideas?

Edit: The plugs are black and smell like gas and the spark isn't great, it's red. If it were the opti, would there be any spark? Now i'm thinking more towards the coil but it worked fine two days ago, and i didn't touch it since.
