Exclamation Ignition problems--95 Z

Hi, I'm new to the forum here, just traded my 5.0 Mustang for a '95 Z-28, and so far I'm not too happy with brand-C.

The car makes a clicking noise from under the hood and right under the dash when I turn the key in the start position, but it doesn't try to turn over. If the key is in the run position, I can jump across the solenoid and it will crank, but won't start. GM says it's not a passkey problem, because that would let it crank, but not start due to the fuel injectors being shut off. The car won't crank in neutral (it's automatic), so that leads me to believe it's not the neutral safety switch. The local parts store says it could be the wiring at the ignition, but judging from my haynes manual, that looks like it would be a MAJOR pain to replace. The car just ran fine 2 days ago, does anyone have any ideas as to what else could be the problem??? Thanks in advance!

Here is a schematic of the starter wiring. It could be the theft deterrent relay. You could try bypassing it for testing. It is to the right of the glovebox under the dash.

There are a lot more diagrams and such on my website. Since I also have a 1995, most of the pics and help will work for you.

Any time you buy a used car, you are potentially getting someone else's troubles. That just goes with the territory, no matter what car you buy. Hope you get it figured out.
