Ignition Problem Update - Only Plugs Left

I have not had lots of time lately to work on the car so it's been a couple
of weeks since I reported on the new optispark install, which did not solve
the problem. I have since installed a new coil and ICM because it's so easy.
The results were the same in that there is no change in the dyno graph and
the hesitation.

I have a set of TR-55s that are gapped at .050" and ready to go in as soon
as I'm ready to shred a few knuckles, maybe next weekend. It's going to be
pretty funny if the plugs solve the problem. Although many have told me to
get those Rapidfires out ASAP, I just did not believe that was the problem.
If it turns out to be the plugs, I'll have a nice serving of crow while I think
about the 7 hours and $350 extra spent of replacing parts.

Gap the plugs at .035 and make sure they will fire. YA YA I know what the book says.

Ya know I have thought of doing that soo many times I may end up doing it... I was thinking to gap them somewhere at .040 so as they wear out the gap will remain within specs for a long time. But then I remind my self that the injuneers at GM may have thought of that one too...

Heck I will gap them at .035

All you are trying to do is take the miss out and make it run right. If the fire can't jump the gap,it WILL jump somewere-- Opti maybe,HUH. See what I was saying about tune ups. I didn't know you wanted 100,000 miles out of the plugs too. Make it run right,THEN worry about how long the plugs last!!!!!

I don't mean to hijack this thread but...

My plugs have about a .060" gap. I was wondering what to replace them with. It says .050", but would .035" be better?

Ohh I can Gap them a 0.05 cause I can too...

No really. If my car didnt have those issues when it was new... and the gap was 0.050 then my spark must be really weak now if I misfire...

Ok here is another of my experiences.. There was a car that was randomly misfiring all the time.. a carburated 4 banger... I noticed a very small puff of blue smoke everytime it move forward from a stop... I decided to change the Valve Stem Seals and after that... Vacum went up and engine smooth out like a sleepyng baby...

Could our problem be related??

Re: Ignition Problem Update - Only Plugs Left

I'll just pick up some TR-5s since they are gapped at .039" and keep the
TR-55s in the box for now. The TR-55s were all pre-gapped at .055" so it
will be interesting to see what the definition of .039" is for the TR-5s.
