ignition cylinder replacement: turn signal harness removal?

hey im replacin my ignition cylinder on my 95 z28. ive got the steering wheel off, the snap ring, lock ring, turn signal arm removed, hazard switch removed, and the lower half of my dash removed. i got up under there and disconnected the turn signal harness. i need to get the plate (not sure what its called... its the plate that the turn signal arm attaches to and has 4 hex nuts on it) off. am i supposed to feed that thing back through the steering column? the harness itself looks about 2.5" wide and the column base cant be but 2" someone wanna help me out and tell me what to do next?

see how it bends forward up top but wont slide out at the bottom? thats where my problem starts.

heres a crappy pic (with nightshot on) of where i disconnected the harness. the harness is pretty damn big to be slidin through the steering column. problem #2
