Ignition box kill a coil and or opti??
I installed a Mallory 685 to control all my nitrous stuff, it is similar to a MSD 6AL but has built in window switch and several timing retard options. Anyway, it worked great for a couple of weeks, then I started having problems. The car would just die then not start back up for a couple of minutes. Then it would fire run for a minute or two and die again. I bypassed the Mallory box and the car ran fine. I warrantied the box out and put the new one in and the car won't even start now when it is hooked up. Actually it kinda starts but it runs really rough and then dies just like before. If I bypass it the car runs fine. So could the added power of the Mallory box be pushing my opti over the edge? The opti is going bad, as I've thrown both high and low res codes lately. I'm pulling the opti for sure but I want make sure this will fix the problem. Should I run a aftermarket coil as well? Thanks!
I've heard arguements both ways about ignition boxes. I'm of the opinion that if the rest of the ignition system is kept in good working order, there's no need for adding further complication to the system. Yeah, I realize it's not a major complication, but that's just me.
In your case, running nitrous, I'd definitely have one. I'd much rather run the risk of frying opti's than not have that safety window and the potential damage that could occur without it.

Thanks for the reply, I kinda of agree with you, if the box wasn't controlling all my N20 stuff I'd probably just yank it, and not worry about it. Anybody else have an opinion on the matter?
