Ignition!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok.

I dont know anything about this area.

what is good/bad/how it works.....etc.

But i do know the better the spark the better the performance.

So i have decided to upgrade spark plugs and wire and maybe the ignition box (i guess thats what it is)

I have heard some people have them and love them, but others have nothing, but trouble since they messed with their ignition systems.

I am asking what is the best QUALITY and most DURABLE set to get that will be RELIABLE and crank ALL the time and be just like stock, but with better performance.

OR is there such a thing??

If yall could inlighten me on this subject and give yalls advice about what to buy and how it works and how it will benefit me that would be great. Thanks

Scott

I think if you're going to upgrade the ignition system, you should do it right the first time. Get a good box like a digital 6 or a 6AL and upgrade the plugs, wires, and coil at the same time. Also, if you're going to go to 8.5mm wires, go ahead and get the over the valve cover kit. As far as the benefits of an upgraded ignition, not many on a stock car. Now if you're making alot of power and reving the motor high or spraying, then yes, an upgraded ignition will make all the difference in the world. Just my thoughts.

I havnt had any problems with my ignition box. the car seems to rev and idle alot smoother than before. I probably bought mine a little premature, but no complaints. The 8.5mm wirs are a bitch to install just because they dont fix in places that the stock ones do...but other than that they are great.

Basing my advice on your relatively stock car:

You won't see much difference with an aftermarket "ignition box". You might perceive some added smoothness in some areas.

OTVC wires are a bad idea with stock manifolds. Ok if you have headers, but otherwise you will just burn up your new wires.

Stock 1997 coil is a good one and not much of any gain will be seen with an aftermarket coil.

Get some decent wires that will fit in the stock location and change the plugs. That is about all you need to do.
