So what Temps do you suggest? I have the exact resistance per degree of temp calculated.

Also... changing My IAT fixed my Acceleration at mid throttle pingin with the A/C on. How do we explain that? Did my MAF go south and my car has been running on speed density Mode?
I am just guessing here. What about the other people who reported fixing their problem with they changed their IATs?

This is very important to find out. I want to know if the problem its at the MAF and changin the IAT works just because our cars are runin on density mode without us knowint it...

Marvin

Edit: I am still thinking about this Mass Density you mentioned and I just remember one thing... I owned a 1989 Ford Escort GT (the grocery getter ) and its Mass Density however nowhere in sight had an Intake air Temp Sensor. I did replace the Bellows once on it cause it tore up and I did many repairs but I never saw one sensor from the Air Filter Box to the Intake manifof Gasket...
Oh one more thing.. The Air Filter in that car is the same size or about the one on the LT1.... and it came with Long tube headers from Factory!!! Hows that for a job well done?? the front suspension sucked though. Thats why I didnt buy a Mustang. Same type of suspension up front.

i was at HRP yesterday. Solo II is using the road coarse now since we can't find a large flat area. they put gates and slaloms all over the road course and... it kinda sucks

marv, glad to hear it fixed it. the reason my header gaskets were leaking is cuz i got hooker shorties and the shop that put em in did a crappy job.

the Cutter was the one on Kapiolani, by Ala Moana
their parts guys are old-timers, prob better than nimitz

i want to get out to the track soon but every night the weather reports humidity like 70%+, temps in the 70s also

the best time was in jan, there was a 60 F night with like 25% humidity. that's about as good as it gets here
how did you do, craig?

Any way that you can test the new one and post a 'comparison'
You read my mind... I am gonna take some Temp/resistance readings today with the New IAT and post them here as a comparison. Now I have no way to control the temps in the car, meaning it wont be degree for degree... If I warm her up to say 130 and turn her off the temp will keep rising and stop somewhere depending on ambient temps and wind and/or the hood being open...

I am just gunna drive her around for say about 30 minutes and shut her off... wait 10 min for the elbow to heat soak and then take readings. Thats what I did previously so the Temps should be somewhere in the same vecinity. I have the 160* Thermo so
I dont think I will see temps much higher than say 170* I tried to Idle the car with the fans off and yet the intake elbow did not get as hot as the engine itself... and it was a real B.i.t.c.h to take readings when the engine is that hot. Here in Hawaii outside is hot and I dont have a place to park in the shade....

Anyways I will post the results..

It was humid, it rained right before I got there. I was running 13.7s all night. I'm messing with the shift points to see what I can come up with right now. The times in my sig are my best, both at HRP. I'm moving to Vegas before the weather gets real good again here.

Very informative post.

I had replaced my MAF and the IAT with a splitting headache in trying to trace the problem down. I ended up finding a split in my donkey dong which was allowing hot air from the radiator fans to be injested at speed. This was throwing my IAT all over the place as well as messing up my actual airflow to the engine.

My fix was to machine a plug for the elbow which has made a huge difference in IAT. I even installed a friend's Vortech elbow and compared temps... to a 40+ degree difference in favor of the stock elbow. I can assure you that in Houston, Texas heat it makes a big difference in power. I am sure it would too in Hawaii.

Alright, someone needs to do a post on the vortec elbow and its effects on intake temperatures. I'm really starting to think thats its robbing me severely when it comes to horsepower. My car feels like a freaking alcohol funny car when I first start it up. Then a half hour of driving I notice a lot more hesitation. I know that I am having a severe problem with engine bay temps right now which will be resolved soon, but if I could find a way to make it cooler in there. I'm all for it.

**UPDATE**

sorry for the delay, I was able to take only one reading with my new IAT today. My G/F wanted some attention (no really?)

Anyway this is what I got today:

Old IAT

temp 82.5* farenheight, IAT resistance 2437 Ohms
per Chiltons it should read 2438.9 Ohms or 0.08% off

New IAT

temp 83.5* farenheight, IAT resistance 2430 Ohms
per Chiltons it should read 2379.5 Ohms or 2.1% off

Remember that I estimated a 9% error margin to account for operators error, IAT and Temp Meter tolerance.. so this numbers are well withing the parameters.

Tomorrow I will take readings with working temps...

Hasta mañana baby.

I foresee a heat deflecting coating or rubber like material inside your Vortech Elbow in your future.

yer need a heat shield inside yer elbow Captain...

Scotty I need more power!!!

But Captain I dont think she can take it much longer!!!

Bul**** Scotty,,, she can take it, she can take it...gimie moe power!!!!

Eye eye sir...

(Mr zulu in the Background) Sir the Klingons are here!!

(Kirk) Scotty!!!! where is my power!!!

(Scotty) Captain Sir she won't hold much longer!!

(Spock) I suggest you raise the friggin shields up Captain

(Dr. MCCoy) Jim!! you drifting, are you alright?

(Kirk) Without shields We are all gonna die!!! We are all gonna die!!!

(Mr Checkov) Get a hold of yerself you idiot!!!

errr no wait... Checkov never spoke to kirk that way.. did he?

Oh my. I am in Camaro Z28!!

Errr yeah do a .... err... search !! I would just insert a Heat shield in your elbow.. Maybe even rubber and glue it with some
real good heat resistant glue..

I better get off dam pain killers...

Actually, i would just replace the Vortech elbow. Gluing rubber to the inside is not going to work. What you could try is having the inside of it ceramic coated as well as the outside. Polydyn here in houston can put a thermal barrier coating on the outside that will eliminate 75% of the radiant heat transfer. On the inside you can use a different airflow coating they apply.

The end result should be a 50 degree drop in peak intake air temperature.

MR Wilks. Post this on a thread by itself. this is very informative. also include the info about the Thermo Coating. Its your info you take the Credits.

I did not mean to step on your toes if thats how you read it.

I can also include the reason why your readings will vary a few percent from what the manual will say. Its due to the humidty in the air and its actual ambiant temps when they were making the standard.

Its kinda like the FAA's flight standard passenger is 175 pounds in the summer and 185 in the winter... Just how many people do you think actually weigh in at 175 on these airplanes? Certainly not more than half on any business day. The last time I had a Stewardess on my lap, she weighed less than 110.

So, your location will also have a good sea level reading which would be different from Detroit or wherever they did their original testing above sea level. Being closer to sea level would show a higher number than they would read being that their air pressure is much different.

Dude if you only knew who I work for

Now what was the stewardess doing on your lap anyways?? err never mind... I guess she fell on you cause it was a Bumpy Ride huh?? Some rough air up there nowadays!! (grin)

No you didnt step on my toes. I am honestly telling you.. Thats some very good info and if you burry it in my long post that people fall asleep before they read the whole thing... very few will know of your findings.

If you create a new post people will read it.

craig, you get to be in the same city as Combination Motorsports!!!

David, so the IAT in the Vortech was reading 40 F hotter?

how did you read it?

Scooby is the vortech elbow coated at all? I have the Trickflow and it has ceramic coating. I can't really remember how hot my stock elbow got but i know that while my car is running i can just leave my hand on the trickflow. It doesn't get very hot. I'm not sure about the vortech though. I was sort of thinking the same as you were about robbing me of hp. So i bought a 1le elbow but it wouldn't fit with my slp cai anyways. So i stuck with it.

MR big I just made it home. Its 9pm. I went for a ride to the Ala Moana Park. I figured the engine will be nice and warm and while I waited for the elbow to heat soak a would go for a swim.

Now why did I do that??? I took the Ignition key with me... Get it?? That key does not open the door!!! Now for you Mainland People... you have no idea what does that mean....

My everything was in the car so I called 911, they conected me to the police, The Police do not open cars in Hawaii, They asked me to call a tow truck.. I told them all my money is in the car, Ok Ok we will send you a tow truck....wait by the phone... so I waited by the phone.... Its 430pm Ok guys? I waited till 630pm and before I began to decompose I decided to "again" call 911, I got the same lady at 911. I told her I need the police again so got transfered to the police again... the lady at the police told me a black and white was on its way, I was still on the phone when the Cop got there.. Wow 2 hrs later!!!! Anyway he was on the cell phone with his g/f or some female... I could tell it was a woman cause the way he was acting... Anyway.. What kind of car you drive... I gave him all the details.. he said.. I could call a tow truck/lock smith or the two truck company that do busines with us.. The cop said if you call a reg tow truck,,, its gona be big money to open your car... $100 or more/// if you want to call the lock smith they may be closed by now or charge extra for the after hours call... I can call our tow truck company but its up to them if they want to come... either way it goes you gunna pay for the call I make... (I was like bloody criminals!!) I said call your company/// so he calls on the radio to his headquarters... they called the tow truck company for him only after they finish other calls they had pending on the radio ... now this took about 20 minutes... the cop stayed with me there bul****ing and just joking around..waiting for his call back. Finally he got the call back from his headquarters... They want to know if you have money.... Yea I do/// then they said ok... Cop told me he had to leave but to stay by the payphone they will come soon... it was about 710pm by then... so Cop left and I was there again looking like Chimp with his D**k cut off!! Anyway I had no choice so It was best for me to wait by the phone like a pimp waiting for his money.

Its now 810pm when I see the tow truck... Freaking Finally!! the tow tuck guy said "what kind of car" I said that big red thing overthere!!...He said "I can open it for $65 in advance" Thats it my D**k fell off at that point I said WTF?? do I look like I went swiming with my wallet on me?) He was cool though and just smiled... so I chilled too... I said everything its in the car including my money... he said I open it for 20 if you call my desk and tell them your wife brough you the keys and you dont need me anymore. I didnt have to think about it, I was bare foot, with only my shorts on me and a beach towel. Not even a t -shirt. and after waiting almost 4hrs, I was like Hell yeah I will spank your wife too if you ask me nicely... just open the friggin thing!!... he cracked up at me....he was a cool hawaiin guy though, so he pulls that metal thing and... Let me tell you HE POPPED THAT CAR OPEN like it was a CAN OF BEER... very talented guy. Ohh what a relief...I didnt drive home...I more like FLEW home and Just got in about 5minutes ago.

The moral of the Story... Everything happens 3 times slower in Hawaii and when you get tired of waiting... that means you are only 1/3 or the wait there!!!.

Sorry I had to vent out. I will finish that comparison tomorrow before I go to work.. I will post after I come back from work
