Thumbs up If you still have the gas smell step in...

Well, for almost a year i have had a raw gas smell from the rear of my car and horrible gas mileage (~13 mpg). I had checked the hoses near the evap canister a hundred times, but never found any acutally disconnected. Well, i got fed up and took my car to an ex- GM mechanic (gotta love my dad's friends, and he did it for free )and found my problem. It was a "loose" hose coming from the gas tank. I would have never guessed that b/c that hose seemed snug. If you take off the panel behind the rear driver side wheel well, you will see all those hoses. My problem was this bannana looking plastic coupler with a hose from the evap canister going to the top of the tank. We put a hose clamp on it and no more gas smell. Double check those hoses and try to pull them apart, that is how we found my problem Just hoping to help some of you guys who still maybe havent fixed their smelly cars

You definatly have to go beyond just looking at the hoses like was said already. I had a similar problem that a hoses had a leak in it, but appered to be fine. For all of you who have the smell, if you have the time check it out, cause it only gets worse over time.

Did you/he have to drop the tank to fix this?

Now that he didn't mention, but I think I know what he's talking about, and if so, it should be accessible with just the removal of the panel. Again, unless we are on a different page, you shouldn't have to drop the tank.

Darkhorse: the tank doesnt need to be dropped, but it helps to remove the wheel for more room

fbird95 is right about the smell, it does get worse over time. One real concern i had was people smoking around my car and it setting on fire b/c it smelled so bad of gasoline
