If you have a 383 LT1 get in here!!

I was trying to use the Eagle Cast Steel crank but summit advertised it as internal when it's actually external and I don't know, I'm just going to send it back and get another withing the 299.00 or so range. If you all could post links to the cranks that you used, don't care what brand, I've heard of eagle and Scat but if you could refer me I'll just buy the one's yall recommend that way I know that they work with no probs getting it balanced with the LT1 balancer. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ASAP

Would that be

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBC-C...QQcmdZViewItem

that is externally balanced???? They say you have to use the 400 balancer, right, do you have a link to the part? Did you use the stock Balancer? I seen ATI makes a balancer for it.

Callies Dragon Slayer

Eagle cranks more often then not are not balanced properly, BigBlockTA over at fbody.com had a huge issue with this....

Well this is the Eagle crank, it doesn't seem much different from the scat.

So should I go send mine back and go with a scat? I was quoted 300 grams off in the front. That's alot and I'm using the PM rods and Hyper KB pistons.

Yea basically my prob, only thing is I'm 300 grams off, that's a lot. Seems like the crank has major problems, could it be because the LT1 flywheel is so heavy that it would put so much weight on the back, because the heaviest part of the crank is the rear and the flywheel wieghts about 25 lbs. I'm thinking if a new crank wouldn't work then adding a **** load of wieght to the balancer, as much as i can then adding the rest to the crankshaft.

The Scat is a great 'economy' crank. I have them in both stroker engines.

Is one of those an LT1 engine? Is it auto or t-56 and are you using stock balancer? Thanks

This has the Scat? 1997 Z28 M6:383, Ai LT4 heads, UDHarold custom cam, 12-bolt, Bassani True-Duals, CAM tuning

Also anyone else, anyone on this board used a summit crank before, and i heard they could take out alot from the rear rather than adding to the front?

If it needs weight removed 300 grams is just a few 3/4 inch drill holes about 1 inch deep. It can be done.

Yes, that car has a Scat forged crank and Scat 6" h-beam rods.

300 grams is about a 1/2 a pound or almost 10 ounces. In mallory metal terms thats just a 3 or 4 slugs the size of a 1/4 (a little thicker).
They will remove material and replace it with the mallory, no problems there.

They usually charge yo by the ounce for mallory metal so expect about 100 $ over the normal balancing fee.
