If done again, what would you do?

OK, about to get my stroker short block back from the machine shop along with rebuilt heads that I am putting on myself. They put in the cam as well as timing chain for me.

If you could do it over again and make sure and do something or NOT do something what would it be? I am talking things like "I wish I had used new head bolts" (which I am doing) or something such as this.

Looking for areas not to make a mistake since this is my first rebuild and don't want to mess it up.

Thanks all,
Ben

I would have put a custom cam in the 1st time, I just did my 3rd cam swap on my car.

I would have put a set of AFR 210cc (or bigger) ported heads insted of using stock ported castings which are ported. I also would have put a single plane intake converted to lt1 bolt pattern insted of using a stock ported intake manifold. So yea

When they put the cam in and the timing chain on did they degree the cam to make sure it was right on? There's a big "I wish I would have had them check the cam timing" that you might hate yourself for later.

i would've taken my project to a machine shop i've used before instead of one suggested to me. i've had all the parts for this project for almost a year. the block was in the shop for 7 months untouched. i finally took it to a different place and will hopefully have it done sometime in the spring.

I wish I woulda had the whole assembly balanced the first time... crank/rods/pistons all balanced would have made my last build much easier.

I didn't skimp on hardware or machine work or anything like that on my last engine, so I don't have any regrets as far as that stuff goes.

But I do wish I would have had more money at the time I built my new engine, I would have built it meaner. There's always next time though

I'm think the next build will be a forged 383 ci, ~12.5 :1 copression, Ported trickflows, shaft mount rockers, and probably another Bauer cam ...in place of my current forged 350ci, ported stock casting heads, Bauer cam combo
