idle problem after driving

i finally got the car running well, but i'm still struggling with the idle after you drive it. once you first start it up for the day it idles fine right away, but as soon as you get it going down the road, it idles at 1500-2000rpm between shifts and continues to do so once you push in the clutch and come to a stop. once stopped, sometimes it will come back down, but a lot of times it stays at that 1500-2000rpm for a long time before it does anything. it's pretty annoying. i thought the throttle body was open too much, so i backed the screw off all the way and its still doing the same thing. I swapped the IAC with another good one i had and it did the same thing. any ideas??

Scan it to see what the IAC counts are when it has the problem.

Have you cleaned your TB lately? After I cleaned my TB, the rpms would hang. I dabbed some oil using a Q-tip on the butterfly rod where the rod enters the body and that cured the issue.

His point is your throttle plates may be sticking. He suggests lubricant. Spray some WD on it.

throttle platea are not sticking.. i even wound the spring an extra time to make it snap shut better. It's an edelbrock 52mm TB... never had any problems with it before the rebuild. i would think i have a vaccum leak, but it only idles high when driving... sometimes it stops when you stop the car and sometimes it continues on.

Time to scan it and see some real time data.

yeah, if i only had access to a scan tool. it only takes one rev after the first startup to get the high idle going sometimes. this is getting bad. although....today the idle came down once and almost stalled, flashing the SES light once and then it returned to high idle after the light went off right away. i didn't have time to get the code checked.
