Identifying Hotcam

I am a deal magnet. It seems whenver I start looking for a specific part I run across a hell of a deal on that part.

A college kid just moved to town here and he has a 96 Z28 that has been converted to look like an SS. He is running a comp cam and other mods.

Anyways, back on topic. He has a "hotcam" that he bought over a year ago to put in his car but instead went with the comp 306. The cam is brand new (i have seen the cam) but he does not have the cam card or anything. The cam is just in a plastic bag with lube still on it. Is there any way at all I can tell if it is a hotcam just by looking at it?? Does it have any markings or casting numbers or anything of the sort??

BTW, he is only asking 50 bucks for it, so if I can pick it up I will be the happiest guy ever.

Come on guys. I would like to trust the guy and get the cam, but I don't want to get something that might not work.

Is there any way I can measure the lobes or something like that.

Ask him where he bought it. Any company he ordered from can send him a copy of his invoice or some record prooving that he bought it.

I've got my old one sitting here. It only has #'s on the back end of the cam, the end with the oil pump gear. The numbers are 238 02L and 586 FM33. This cam came from GMPP with the hotcam kit. I ordered a new hotcam recently from Summit to replace it, its in my motor now but I remember the #'s werent the same as this. I assume Summit got it from a cam manufacturer other than GMPP. Hope that helps.
