ICM relocation

Hey folks,
I've got a really silly question
Can I just simply unbolt the ICM from the coil bracket and just tape it to the back side of the CAI? I mean, I saw the backside of the ICM is metal...do I have to ground it to the chassis, or no...?
I have completely removed the coil/bracket since I'm using an MSD Blaster Coil mounted on the shock tower bolts.

Where is it, now? Does it run ok like that? The ICM has a ground running to it on one of the wires, so it might not be a problem, just as long as it stays cool. I would leave it attached to the heat sink bracket.
Only drawback to your set-up I see is that you had to lengthen the coil wire. Normally, thiis is made as short as possible.

Hi Shoebox,

The ICM is just hangin around like this
I haven't driven the car for a month now, and I don't want to start it untill I know it's OK to have the ICM taped to plastic part and not to a metal one.
There are still three ground wires on the coil bracket stud, but the bracket itself is gone.

Hmm....coil wire. Please have a look at my setup . I think the coil wire was in the MSD wires package. Also note the extremely long MSD-to-coil connector leads.... Do you think it could cause problems? Lower performance.... Since last summer, I'm trying to figure out what causes that overall "lazyness" in my car
Regards,

I dont't think the MSD to coil leads are a problem. I still think the ICM should stay mounted to the metal heat sink, but that is just me. Then mount it anywhere you want. Note the conductive grease that is between the ICM and the bracket.

If you suspect your coil to opti wire is too long, mount your coil down by where the AIR pump was (I don't think you have one ) and shorten the wire.

Would it dissipate more heat with the heatsink/bracket on?
I do have the whole air system, but I'm gonna ditch it once my headers will arrive.
Thanks shoebox!

Heck, I don't know for sure. On one hand you have the heat sink to wick away heat from the module. On the other you have the metal of the sink retaining heat in the hot engine compartment. The only thing I can say is that the module temp would probably be more even with the sink on.
I don't think you could go wrong leaving the sink on it (it came with one, right? ), but I don't know if you could leaving it off. Is that confusing enough?
Even with the sink on, relocating it will make it stay cooler anyway, IMO.

Yes, exactly, that's the point!
